Music Creator Pro 24

2 stars (Great features, but partially unusable, with terrible suppor) - I bought Music Creator Pro to create sound tracks for the video projects I've been putting together, and it's a very capable set of tools. The MIDI and recorded sound mixing, effects, and automation would be perfect for my application - if they worked. The description of the product on Cakewalk's web site is accurate, and the user interface is not very difficult to understand. I installed the software on a fast Windows XP machine, and soon discovered that it would crash when the drum pattern paint tool was used. Cakewalk's tech support has been very slow in their responses, taking at least one day and sometimes more than four to respond. I still haven't received any help other than advice to reinstall the product (I did), make sure I have the latest drivers (I do), and delete a couple of configuration files (I did). The drum pattern tool still crashes the application, and in the course of working through the tutorials (the ones I can use) I have also discovered some features that appear to be globally disabled. Two weeks after installing the product, I'm simultaneously very impressed with the features and capabilities, and very disappointed with the responsiveness of Cakewalk's tech support. If everything worked the way it was supposed to, I would probably rate Music Creator Pro with five stars. [update] It's now a month since purchase, and the software still does not work correctly. Cakewalk will not support this product by telephone. If you call their (non-toll-free) support number, you are told that they only support Music Creator Pro by email. They have failed to respond to either of my last two email messages, the first of which was sent two weeks ago. ...

5 stars (Great book.) - I have been using a canned program to manage my company's web site, but I wasn't always able to do fine tune the pages the way I wished. So I decided to teach myself HTML. Working through this book, I was able to learn step by step how to design pages and manipulate the images and text. The book is very clear and concise and the exercises the author gives at the end of every chapter are extremely useful. 4 stars (Up-To-Date Now - Thank you.) - Having been out of web Development for a couple years, I needed confidence that my basic understanding was up to speed. This book HTML and XHTML in 24 hours, brought me up to date rather quickly. It provided the foundation that I needed both to build some basic web application prototypes, and to be able to begin reading more specialized books on Web Development. Specifically books on CSS. 5 stars (Awesome book!) - Best computer related book that I have ever read. I was somewhat familiar with HTML concepts, but never created my own web page. Bad Cat- 244 Not-So-Pretty Kitties And Cats Gone Bad

5 stars (I DID NOT LIKE THE COVER UNTIL...) - When I first saw the book I found it UGLY. Since I am a cat lover I looked inside just to find out why on earth anybody would make such a bad cover. Thank God I did look inside! - The book is simply hilarious! I bought the book and took it home for further amusement. After going through the whole book I also learned to appreciate the cover. I have to compliment the author for a brilliant idea! By the way, my boyfriend, who is NOT a cat lover and used to dislike my two pets with passion, seems to have changed his attitude towards my cats after having a lot of fun with "Bad Cat". What's even more interesting, he gave me for my birthday another book with a BEAUTIFUL cover, titled "Why Some Cats are Rascals". Yet another great book! It is meant as children's book, but I had a lot of fun reading it together with my boyfriend. I think he is on the edge of getting one "Rascal" for himself, although he does not admit that yet... 5 stars (A gripping tour-de-force) - I laughed so hard I was crying. Seriously. Jim Edgar is a comic treasure. I eagerly await Bad Cat 2. 5 stars (Couldn't be any funnier!) - Bought this book and howled all night - the cats in it are just hilarious. Between the photos of cats gone bad and the captions that absolutely capture what we humans think the cat MUST be thinking, you'll thoroughly enjoy this book. Now, whenever I've had a rotten day at work, I simply pull out my "bad cats" and feel better almost instantly! A side note: I recently bought the "Bad Cats Calendar" for 2006 - it contains even more than the book - can't wait until January 1 when I can put it on my desk at work! ...

ZoneAlarm Pro 5 Firewall + Privacy Protection

4 stars (Not that great with Windows 9x) - I'm about ready to ditch my copy. I have run ZA PRO for a year now. In the beginning it seemed to do it's job and stay out of my way. But like any software product nowadays, it is becomming more and more bloated. Check your oil? Wash your windshield? Just get out of my way so I can use my computer, is that too much to ask? Tonight I had to reboot twice because of ZA Pro. Admitedly, I'm still hanging on to Windows 98 and 256k of memory. If these are you creditials also, then maybe like me, you may start thinking about a hardware firewall. In the year I've used ZA, my PC hasn't been compromised, so I guesss that's worth 4 stars. But it should not cause me 30 minutes out of my day just to keep it parked should it? 2 stars (Watch out for the version 6 upgrade!!) - Hey, I've used ZoneAlarm for years and agree that it's a fairly good firewall for the money. However, watch out for the latest version (version 6)!! It hosed my computer. It forgot all the settings I've had on it for the past five or so years. Every application on my computer that accesses the internet is no longer working including Internet Explorer and my email. They added this new feature Smart Defense that doesn't seem too smart so far. They also changed all your program permissions to Block. You have to physically go in and change them back to Ask just to get it to prompt you for access to the internet. Then they amazing broke the Remember this Setting option so it prompts you again and again. Anyway, you get the picture and I can sleep knowing you have been warned. The latest upgrade is terrible. 4 stars (excellant product-alarm zone) - technical support is almost non-existent, because of this i will look to another product. this is unacceptible. ...

1 stars (Crashes at the worst time) - Let me add my voice to the multitude and say this game crashes at the worst time. The frequency of crashes seems to be related to the size of the world and the number of units you have going at once, so just when the game is starting to get interesting with lots of armies moving around, it crashes to the desktop in spectacular fashion. I'm fed up with game developers pushing crap out that doesn't work. Just by the number of people complaining about this you can tell this is something that should have been caught in testing. It takes all the fun out when you play a map for two hours and have it bomb out. 1 stars (Really Not Tested) - Adding to the reviews below, I have been unable, with four days of trying, twelve uninstalls, and 5 contacts with Tech Support, to get the program to even load. It is not graphics; the manufacturer has simply thrown ideas out with no clue as to the cause. Athlon 2700, ATI Radeon 9200, Meets all specs for game. Since that review point out most of the good points for the game, I'll tell you what bothered me the most. First of all, I miss the "water tool" to create swimming pools, rivers, and all of those water bodies. The new two-player interface doesn't split your screen diagonally anymore, now it splits it horizontally. It doesn't take much to get use to it, but I feel that there is a little less field of view than before. Also, the tip bubbles that appear intermitently and perhaps too many times, obscure the time of day and other important information. Also, when a thief gets in your home and you were sleeping and in fast-forward time, the time doesn't slow down like before, now it keeps going and the thief most likely, even if you have your place filled with burglar alarms, would steal something. The police rarely arrives in time. More than once I found out that I was robbed the next morning after I couldn't find my refrigerator, even as I have 2 alarms outside, 2 inside, and one on each side of the lot next to the main neigborhood sidewalk. The items you can buy are of less appeal that those in previous games, it's almost as if EA just leave in mostly the essentials. You may know by now that unlike the way better PC version you can't build 2 stories houses. 4 stars (Borderless Printing with Epson R300 series printer) - I purchased Print Shop 21 (Standard) for one reason and one reason only: Borderless printing. I'm sure there are other packages out there that can do the same thing but it was time to upgrade PS anyway. I selected borderless printing in the Epson R300 print setup menu (with compatible paper) and got a perfect borderless greeting card, really professional in appearance. To me, it was well worth the $29. ---One more note; I had to tweak my NVidia 5200 video card settings in Windows XP to get any graphics to show up. How did I know how to do this?, Broderbunds EXCELLENT web based technical support, unbelievable! However, this is a compatibility issue so that's why it only gets 4 of 5 stars. Now to play with the other features this program has to offer! 2 stars (Good desktop tool but extremely poor customization) - I have been using Print Shop (PS) Deluxe since version 15, then version 20, and now version 21. And I use it quite frequently, for example, to create CD and DVD labels and greeting cards. It offers a nice collection of fonts and art clips. But the biggest problem with PS is its extremely poor customization and configuration options. They are non-existing. Given the popularity, one expects Broderbund to enhance the software to allow minimal customization. During installation, you have two options: either install the entire thing (and it would take several GBs) or install a minimal version (but you do not know what the minimal option offers) and have your CDs (or if you are lucky, your DVD) nearby to mount when essentially everything you want has to be read from the CD or the DVD! For my situation (installation on a laptop) I had to install the whole thing (as I do not wish to have to take my DVD along). Thus I had to let go of several GBs of my harddrive, even though I use only a tiny portion of PS (essentially, labels and greeting cards; I do not have any use for banners, booklets, brochures, ...
