Doom 3

5 stars (Now get your lazy butt to Mars, Space Marine!) - This review is both for the X-BOX as well as the PC-version of the game: You got a weekend coming up? You got some time on your hands? You got a grand supply of Coke and pizza? You got a craving for good horror movies and games? You know how to turn off the lights and turn on your computer/X-BOX? And finally: you got a computer that can actually run this game fast enough (no need to worry here if you have an X-BOX)? Well, then what are you waiting for: get DOOM 3 to have the greatest thrill and chill ride of your life! Doom 3 is something like TOTAL RECALL (remember Arnold, the Governator, back in his glory days on his mission to Mars?) meets DOOM meets HALF-LIFE meets SYSTEM SHOCK 2. From the get-go this game simply grips you with its eerie dark atmosphere. And this is the plot: You are a space-marine who just got assigned to a top secret research facility on Mars - very much like an Area 51 in outer space. As soon as you leave the ship and enter the hangar you'll be exploring the base. This part of the game works very much like Half-Life. In a creepy "calm before the storm"-fashion you get to navigate the dark corridors, offices, underground machinery and even the cantina and restrooms. Even though you can't exactly tell what's wrong - you get the feeling that something badly out of whack. Some people (you may choose to talk to) seem to be on the edge. A TV blurs about recent happenings. Data-units and screens give you access to information about Mars, the base, the staff etc. You may even listen in to conversations when you're passing by some people. The level of interactivity is amazing and the claustrophobic spooky tone won't let you go until the very end of this game. There's lots of scripted events as well, which are all well done and do not interrupt the flow and overall experience, at all. Soon you're given a PDA (That's "Geek" for: Personal Data Assistant), which allows you to collect access...

Doom 3- Resurrection of Evil Expansion Pack

3 stars (Yeah, the graphics are nice but its not that fun....) - Unless you cheat like a Cacodemon, otherwise you get killed quick. This expansion pack takes the award for the Fastest Killing of a Player, less than 3 minutes. The only game that is as bad is the first Aliens Vs. Predator game. I bought this dark game at the discount bin of my local game store, thinking that it would be more interesting (or fun) than the original game (which I played all the way to the end, cheat-cheat-cheat). I was expecting something like a more intense version of Serious Sam but it plays alot like Resident Evil. In contrast, Half-Life 2 was alot more fun to play - despite its Police-State registration process. Doom 3 needs to be more fun and less Funhouse. 5 stars (Better than the original) - This game is 10x better than the game it came with. Get this game and you will experience doom! The level designs are more interesting and frightening. The action is faster and makes you think quick. Much Much better than regular doom3. 4 stars (A Step Up for DOOM 3) - Better overall. Smooth install. Better weapons. The Artifact is fun to use. Faster and more variable levels. Just when it starts to get too tedious (and it does), some element of the game significantly changes and it's more fun again. Only a few problems to solve during the game. There was nothing particularly amusing about this game, no real levity, and I never really felt like my monster fighting skills were improving from level to level. Neat graphics though, claustrophobic environment, better blasting satisfaction, but for me...no real immersion. For a WORLD GONE MAD, goofy and imaginative, visually very interesting, often really creepy, a "how the hell am I supposed to do that", blast 'em to pieces, WHOA kinda game.... PAINKILLER :) ...

Jewel Quest

5 stars (great game) - Very addictive game. I cruised through the first level and now I am really challenged with the second and there are three more to go after that. 5 stars (A Fun & Addictive Game) - I recently started playing several computer games, and this one was recommended to me by a friend - she said it could be addicting, and I must say that she was right! I have been playing Jewel Quest on and off for several months now, and it seems as if the levels will never end. I think this is a good thing, because once you solve a game, you usually don't play it again. Because of the sheer # of levels, this game can provide many, many hours of enjoyment (or frustration....) One of the great features of this game is that you are never made to start all over again - You keep working on the same board until you conquer it. After you've attempted the same board several times without beating it, you are given the option to just skip that particular level, and move on. I personally never choose that option, but I like to know that the option is available if I get too frustrated with the difficulty of a particular section. The goal of Jewel Quest is to match various items - you must match at least 3 of the same item in a row or colum. By doing this, you turn the "sand" tiles to "gold", and you must get the entire grid gold within a specific period of time. It may sound easy, but as you move along the levels, it actually gets quite difficult. Overall, I would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys matching games where there is increasing levels of difficulty. My thought is that it's probably more appropriate for adults as opposed to children. 5 stars (Fun for all) - Fun game. Can be habit forming, if you do not succed the first time it lets you try again and again after so many tries it moves you to the next level, onlike some games that says you done for. some of the games do get boring after you have played them a half dozen times before moving to the n...

Civilization 3 Complete

5 stars (Best Game Ever!) - This is by far the best strategy game ever developed in the computer gaming industry. I can't wait for Civ IV!!! 2 stars (Great Game If You Can Get It to Work; Recommend with Extreme Caution) - Great Aspects: If you can get the game properly installed and working, then it's well-worth the money. Between the many races, many ways to win, and the many paths to get to those wins (tech, weapons, diplomacy, etc.), this game is quite entertaining. The graphics and music are pretty good and the wide array of in-game options (as well as quick to learn) is a strong plus. Downside: Discs seem to have too much copy-protection on them to the point where legal copies of the game can't be read by some CD-drives. Atari tech support is extremly slow and useless and will blame the problem on you unless you really want to push them. Summary: The fun factor (5 stars) isn't in question here, it's the ability to actually play the game. If you have a slightly older CD-drive, you're probably okay. A new CD-ROM drive might present some serious difficulties. Don't hesistate to return the game if it doesn't work with your system. Recommend with Extreme Caution. 4 stars (More Scenarios) - I have enjoyed Civ from the beginning. The Civ3 scenarios are excellent. They give the flavor of the different periods and a good sense of history. however there are some scenarios in Civ2 that are not available in Civ3 that I am aware of and I keep hoping they will show up. The American Revolution, the American Civil War, WWI (even if it is only the European and Mediterranean theaters, and WWII European, Mediterranean and North African theaters. Make no mistake the scenarios available in Civ3 are excellent, ancient Mediterranean, ancient Japan, medieval, Napoleonic and the World War2 Pacific Campaign are all great. I'm sure there are some scenarios that I have left out. You can see those that I play most often. ...

4 stars (Must have this if you use MS flight sim) - If you have an extra 2.5 gigs of memory on your machine, and use MS Flight Sim seriously, get this. It adds a extra level of landscape detail that is very enjoyable. I'm getting my privot pilot's license now and regularly re-fly my actual lessons with the SIM. Codename- Panzers Phase 2

5 stars (Totally Sweet) - This game really has a lot going for it. Using historical battles one can have a lot of fun. My only complaint is that Krupps were not like they were in the first game. The allied campaign was really tough. Read up on your strategy for this game because it gets tough. If you liked the first one, I would highly suggest this game. 2 stars (It should have been a patch.) - This game should have been a free patch to codename panzers one.I don't now how stormregion had the nerve to charge 40 bucks and tax for this game.I really enjoyed codename panzers one and was looking forward to the release of this game. Its little more then an improvement on the gaming console and a slight extension of the game.I really do feel robbed,I'm sorry. 5 stars (Panzers) - This game is the Top Game under the strategy games 20 new units, choose your country. A good mix from single and multi-user gaming. Nice landscape graphics. Have played two whole nights already ... simply a must buy. ...

Syberia

5 stars (simply tradtional) - Syberia was a game that really interested me at first because I saw the graphics looked great on the cover and I also read really good reviews on it. At first it was staring out slow, but after the first 30 minutes, I was totally engaged not only to the graphics, but the story line. Once a person starts into this, there is no stopping because you want to find out who this Hans Voralberg guy is;half way into the game you feel like you already know the guy. I really did not have any problem with this game at all, except in the beginning, the voices were overlapping and all you have to do is go to the main menu, look at the options and play with the detail and then restart your computer, and the problem is fixed. At the end you feel like you know Kate Walker, which is the person you play, and it did not take me that long to get done with this game, but it wasn't exactly short either, of course I had the walkthrough papers beside me in case I missed something which I would firmly suggest. This game would not be for the impatient. The greatest things that you don't have to worry about are you don't die off, there is no time limit on anything, and you don't have to save alot. Once again I emphasize this is not a game for the impatient. This game is no where near reality in itself overall, but alot of things in this game are. For example an attorney trying to close a deal up, finding the owner just passed away, her boyfriend situation, things of this sort. I think this game is excellant for passing the time, and I suggest this for anyone looking for a tradional game. 3 stars (Lost potential) - These are a few limited comments because others have covered the game in detail. The genre of adventure games: manipulate the character to find and use objects to solve 'puzzles' and obstacles in order to continue to reach the next goal. My kind of game. The most striking thing are the beautiful graphics and attention to detail, as in the very first c...

Sacred Gold Edition

4 stars (Ascaron - Buggy and Temperamental Software) - While their games have great potential their attention to detail is terrible. Never buy a first edition game from them. Wait several months for them to work out the bugs. I am very computer literate and could not find a way to make early versions work on very standard setup PC's. 5 stars (Excellent!) - I tend more towards RTS games, so when I randomly started playing Sacred Gold because it happened to be in my boyfriend's computer at the time, I was surprised to find myself hooked. (He still hasn't gotten his CD's back...) Sacred has a wonderful plotline, something lacking in many RPG's, but its real strength lies in the actual gameplay. There is a main quest running throughout the game, but you can also complete numerous side quests for rewards--these side quests can even affect your reputation in the game, it seems. The quests make the game very wide-open and allows you to play at your leisure. The Gold edition gives you eight different character types to choose from, and they happily stray a bit from the usual standards--yes, you have your dwarf, your battle mage, and your fighter, but you can also play a seraphim with angelic blood, a vampiress who is a knight by day, your choice of a wood elf or a dark elf, and my personal favorite, a demon. Each class has its own set of abilities, set as either spells or combat arts. Sacred Gold also contains the Underworld expansion, which is possibly even better than the original game. It carries on the storyline and has more challenging quests, both in the side quest and the main quest. Finally, this is a lovely game--the graphics are well above average, and the music--well, I have many of the tracks, especially from Underworld, on my iTunes playlist. ...

Dora the Explorer Adventure 3 PACK

2 stars (More like watching TV than playing a game) - My three-year old son and I enjoy playing some computer games together, and Reader Rabbit games have been a big hit. I saw this three-pack for such a good price, and we're Dora fans from rentals and books, so I decided to pick this up. Unfortunately, I was disappointed at how much this is a lot of talking and not too much playing. While the games offer "story" vs "just play" mode, the story mode was more than half animations and talking, with just a little interactivity. Worse, the interactive parts will eventually just skip on and keep playing, even if the child doesn't try to do anything, so they just play like a movie, too. If you've got a kid who's computer literate and you're looking for a different way to plop them down somewhere for a half an hour while you make dinner (and I'm not above that), then these games are slightly more interactive than the TV show. However, if you're looking for something educational or that's interesting to play while your kid's on your lap, this isn't the thing to get. Me? I'll stick with the Dora videos and probably just buy the next Reader Rabbit game instead. 5 stars (great) - this is a really good program for kids-it teaches them to count. my niece loves it 1 stars (Warning for Mac users...) - We didn't even get this one out of the box. We ordered it primarily for Animal Adventures, which is also available separately. But this three-games-in-one package seemed like a better deal. Unfortunately, Animal Adventures is NOT Mac compatible. At all. Also, this says it's for Mac OS X Classic, which isn't readily available with Tiger. It's in there somewhere, apparently, but it doesn't boot automatically like it used to. ...

The Sims Unleashed Expansion Pack

3 stars (Considerable Expansion Pack for Pet Lovers) - With this expansion pack installed, you will see some pets in your neighborhood. Once in several days, you'll meet not only street cats and dogs, but also some skunk! Having animals around is not always a good thing. You will have more things to do at home. Cleaning up their poo, bathing them, expense more on their food, etc. While keeping a pet at home could means more trouble, you'll have some advantages on them. If you have a dog, you can have your daily newspaper brought in your house by your dog. Or if you pet a cat, you'll see that cockroaches around the corner aren't there anymore (yes, your cat eat them up!). With this expansion pack installed, you will be able to pet a dog, cat, fish, bird, iguana, etc. When you buy a dog or cat, you can choose its colour and name it. You should buy toys and other tools for your pet. Of course you cannot make your cat sleep in a bird's cage. What is more, you'll see that your neighborhood is enlarged! You will have more lots to be built. Either as a house, or as a common place for you to visit (you can build shops, pets shop, etc) As I don't really like pets and I am disturbed by those wild animals around my house, I don't like this expansion pack very much. I would prefer buying another expansion pack for this game such as Superstar or Makin' Magic. 5 stars (please help) - i want get a sims game but my mom thinks its bad. what is there in the game and what certain age do you have to be? i hope you guys help me. if you do put your title as problem for help. thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou bye :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) 5 stars (A great game overall) - This game is a lot more fun that the Deluxe Edition because you actually get to go out of the house and to shop. You can buy pets and meet new people at the shops. You also get to create new stores, like pet stores, dog and cat adoption centers, gardening shops, food shops. The neighborhoods ...

Far Cry

5 stars (What a game) - Great fun. If you have high speed internet, you will love the multiplayer gaming. I play it with Kinyo 5.1 surround headphones ($50) and an Audiology 2 zs soundcard.. Surround sound really makes the game fun. Heck, any FPS is way better with surround sound. You need a serious video card and at least 500M memory too. If you have all this, just get the game. You will find yourself coming back to it again and again, even after you have played newer games like Battlefield 2. And it's only to $20 now! HINT: you can turn down video settings to increase performance, but leave the "special effects" and "water effects" on medium. The special effects on low will not let you see the glint of a sniper, and water effects on low will not let you see people swimming under water. Evertything else can be cranked to low. It will improve your online response time. 5 stars (Stunning) - Combining superior graphics, an intelligent AI, challenging gameplay, and a variety of powerful and visceral weapons, Far Cry is one of the best FPS ever created. Be ready for a challenge- this is not an easy game, although it is not as hard as some make it out to be. I played through on medium difficulty without too much trouble. Also, make sure you have a very modern and updated system to play the game on, because it will skip constantly on slower systems. 4 stars (Fun gameplay, good eyecandy, but...) - the voice acting kills the atmosphere just about everytime it pops up. Over a year after the games come out, you still can't play the game at maximum settings. The physics are good, the weapons are well balanced, and the objectives are challenging. You don't have to kill everything that moves, and like in Thief, snaking is sometimes a REQUIRED order of the day. This was a great game to tied me over until Half-Life 2 came out, and even with the bad voice acting, it's still worth loading every now and then just to get beat up by the very good AI. ...

Call of Duty- United Offensive Expansion Pack

5 stars (best game ever made) - this expansion pack is amazing and provides great improvements to the regular call of duty game. don't buy it for the single player - buy it for the amazing multiplayer. the graphics and movement have improved greatly. you can now run instead of just walk, and use smoke bombs, a great improvement. the weapons feel better - the action is fast-paced and more realistic. however, it's not perfect. many of the maps are so-called "tank maps" because they revolve around the use of tanks and jeeps. the jeeps are pretty cool, but these are a detriment to the game. you're better off not playing any tank maps at all. tanks are useless in that if you get in one, you'll almost instantly be blown to smithereens. in addition, the tanks keep spawning so this lame idea of "fun" is repeated ad nauseum. also the maps are much bigger and you spawn far away from the action, so there's too much walking or driving in UO. other negatives - sniper rifles are much much less useful than in regular COD. why? well, people can sprint and the faster people move, the harder they are to hit. also, smoke bombs cloud the sniper's vision. (still, the smoke is simply amazing). one more negative - artillery. artillery is a feature where when you reach a certain rank, you point with your binoculars and planes drop huge bombs on the enemy. for the most part it's cool, except there's simply too much artillery and when one team uses it on the other team's spawn point, the game is virtually over, because you can't stop from being killed by it. this is a stupid oversight on the part of the makers of UO. other positives - new types of games, especially capture the flag, my personal favorite, greatly add to the fun, instead of playing old boring team deathmatch. also, make sure you turn your search filter on to search for "mods" so you can play new modifications and maps that people created. this adds to the freshness and excitement of the game. also t...

Railroad Tycoon 3

2 stars (The developers confused "family friendly" with "childlike") - I was addicted to Railroad Tycoon 2, but unfortunately it wouldn't play under my new operating system. I was thrilled to find RT3 and eagerly awaited its delivery. Unfortunately, RT3 has lost much of the complexity and the underhandedness that made RT2 so much fun. For example: - in RT2, only industries or resources inside your station's field of influence would be serviced by your trains. In RT3, each station has a vague, undefined "area of influence" that goes beyond the size of your station's shown field. Is that feedlot, grain farm, or mine close enough to your station so you don't have to build another closer station? Good luck figuring it out. - in RT2, one could designate different loads for cars in the same manifest. This can't be done now. This makes it very difficult to produce goods manufactured from more than one type of raw material. - the graphics are very comic-book like, and would more appeal to children around the age of three than they would adults. Very unattractive and simplistic. I would have even preferred a 2-D model with more sophistication. - the business models have been vastly oversimplified, and the AI companies are not one thousandth as cutthroat as in RT2. This is a bad thing. Historically, rail companies were not paragons of industry; for a historical sim to be realistic, it has to reflect the true conditions of the industry. The rail business in RT3 appears to have been emasculated, perhaps to appeal to young naive children, but it's lost much of its interest for adults. - creating new maps and new scenarios is much more complicated in RT3 than it was in RT2. - the weather is a useless, worthless feature that eats memory. Yes, you can turn it off, but it still takes up a lot of space in storage memory. I did not much enjoy RT3. It appears to have lost much of the detail that made RT2 so enjoyable (wasn't it great to finally get iron *and* coal, send one tr...

Age of Empires 2 Gold

5 stars (I still love it after all these years... if you own a computer, you NEED this game.) - Age of Empires 2 was the first game I ever got for my computer. It was six years ago, I was ten. It... blew my mind, it was so amazing. I did all the campaigns, it took me about a year on again off again to beat all of them, but hey, I was ten. So then I started working on the 'random maps' in the game. The regular ones were fun, wether one-on-one, eight people in a free-for-all, or balanced teams, it was amazing. The replayability just took me aback. Deathmatches offered almost instant action, giving players hoards of rescources, allowing them to concentrate on militarisation rahter than their economy. But my favourite type of game was Regicide. Each player gets a King and a Castle at the beginning, and you're defeated once your King dies. This beacame a game of cat-and-mouse, building castles wherever I could and always moving the King, trying to protect his royal [if inept] majesty from hoards of bloodthirsty enemies all vying to deliver his crown to their own soverign. All marvelous fun. And I haven't even begun to comment on the system itself. Each of the four ages, dark, feudal, castle, and imperial, represent disticnt points in history. For example, cavalry is not available in the Dark age, and only weak scouts in the Feudal age. The Castle age brings with it heavily armoured knights, as well as horse archers to harass enemy villagers and cripple their economies. And this is just cavalry. Archers, infantry, and siege weapons evolve dramatically as you progress, from rag-tag Militia wielding simple clubs, to the menacing Champions armed with monstrous two-handed swords, and this is just Infantry. Also, each of the 13 civilizations has its own benefits, such as the Turks' cheaper gunpowder units or the Fraknish bonuses to knight hitpoints. In addition, each civilization gets one [some even get two] unique units, which only they can produce. The By...
