PC-cillin Internet Security 2005 AntiVirus- Firewall- Spam- Spyware- Wi-Fi Patrol

1 stars (The jury is still out on this one) - I've been very happy with the security package, but installing took days. Even the updates are slow. My computer has been slower since installing this program. I might have been better off getting Norton. This program offered free telephone service for problems and Norton charges for each call. 5 stars (Finally, an affordable easy-to-use all-in-one solution) - After years using first McAfee then Norton, I finally found a solid alternative. Trend Micro's PC-cillin is comprehensive PC protection that's easy to use, affordable and doesn't prevent critical applications from running as they were meant to -- and costs less than it's counterparts. Gone are the many many pesky "alerts" from Norton's security product (that, at times, a user has no idea how to answer and, if answered wrong, some things don't even work anymore). I've happily made the switch and I'll never go back again. 5 stars (Switched from Norton, McAfee and ZoneLabs) - I decided to standardize on a single anti-virus/firewall solution for the three computers in our house. This fit the bill. First, the competitive rebate makes it very affordable. They also offer a home three-pack, which costs what two individual licenses would. Second, the impact on my systems seems very negligible - I can't notice a performance difference when it's turned on or off. Third, using their Home Network feature you can manage installations of the product on other computer on your network. So I can administer all three of my computers without running around the house. Fourth, the firewall allows you to configure the types of access that are permitted (unlike the free ZoneAlarm firewall, which makes you explicitly permission each program you want in/out access). On the downside, the firewall configuration could be easier to understand. Once you have it setup you never notice it's there, though. Borland C++ Builder 6 Personal

1 stars (Borland is now dead) - I've been a Borland C/C++ programmer since Turbo C 2.0 and for years it's been the best compiler. Not now. I purchased both Borland C++ Builder 6 and Microsoft Visual C++.NET - the Visual C++ box weighed approx 6 times that of Borland's box (and although weight don't make a compiler, it's an indicator of the vendor's features and support). Visual C++ gives you more bang for the buck but I don't like Microsoft's managed .NET direction. Looks like it's time to seek a Linux solution! 1 stars (Sad just plain sad) - I was excited to come back to Borland. I remember that day's under Turbo C++. They truly had a superior product then first of it was fast. If you had to debug with in the class libraries you could step into them and find out where the problem was. What I have found with Borland today that scares me is it's based around Pascal. That is just not smart! It adds additional complexity to debugging. Try to step into it. I also could not understand why CBuilder violates some OOP OOD concepts through public member variables except when absolutely nessecary. I understand why now. This is a dangerous path...take it at your own risk. Pray that you never have to resolve a serious low level soft ware problem with this. It looks like it will have some serious teeth to bite with. I would have give this zero but the option wasn't available. Microsoft truly has a better product than this. And I was truly excited to see what new ideas Borland had come up with when I came back to this tool set. Adobe Photoshop Elements 3 0 Windows

5 stars (Big step-up from 2.0) - Just returned from a workshop at the Santa Fe Photo Workshop. Was amazed to learn how much more I can do with Elements 3.0 compared to 2.0. There was no difference in the class between the capabilities of my Elements 3.0 and the folks who were using Photoshop CS2; however, there were lots of things I would not have been able to do in 2.0. I am sure that for professional photographers, CS2 offers many advantages - but, as a "serious amateur", I am glad I didn't spring for the additional cost. I love the way you can move back and forth between the quick fix function and standard editing with just a click on buttons at the top of the screen. Having the adjustment sliders down the right side of the screen is very convenient - although that makes the photo workspace smaller. For the price, Elements 3.0 is top notch in my opinion. 3 stars (Amazing color-correction, but Windows users beware!) - I feel like an idiot for buying this software. This is a Macintosh application that has been ported to Windows with predictably confusing results. I was looking for an inexpensive alternative to the various photo editting tools I've acquired with different hardware peripherals. In the past I have relied on an old Adobe product that came with my HP scanner to do simple photo editting, but I was having trouble installing it on my Windows XP machine, and thought it was time to look for something more modern. A large part of this product suite is a photo organizer that is not as easy to use as Picasa, a free product available from Google. I have only begun to attempt to use the photo editting software on the JPEG files I have been scanning from slides. I must say that the "auto correction" operation, whatever it does exactly, seems really excellent. 1 stars (Nero 6 is junk) - I'm not an idiot, but I can't make nero 6 ultimate edition do anything. The photo viewer tells me it has errors and won't run...can't make it copy my photo files.
