Microsoft Office Standard Student and Teacher Edition 2004 Macintosh

1 stars (Unstable) - I'm an undergraduate engineering student, which means I spend a lot of time 1) doing homework and 2) using my computer. During the times that those two activities coincide, I'm often writing a report or working with an Excel sheet. Before I picked up this version of Office, I had been using Office 2003 for over a year. Office 2003 crashed--a lot. Almost every time I'd use Word or Excel a crash would occur. As a result, I began to hit command-s after about every 25 keystrokes--obsessive, you might say. When I came back to school for the 2005-2006 year and upgraded to Office 2004, I had hopes that because the software was newer, it would somehow be more robust. In my opinion, it's really not. Sure, the interface is a bit cleaner and updated, but even though I'm running the most current versions of this sofware, it still doesn't work very well--crashes occur all too often. It's not the power software I had hoped it would be. As I've told my friends many times, I maintain that Microsoft produces crap for the Mac OS. You can disagree when you like, but I'll be switching to OpenOffice 2.0 when an OS X version is released. If you can get this for "free" (i.e., it's covered by tuition or something), go for it. It *IS* better than Office 2003, but not by much. 4 stars (not quite perfect) - I got the Office for Mac so as to allow me to transfer documents between machines. I would have to say that transferring data using a USB drive saves me a lot of time, although it is not entirely seamless. Some formats on Office Word 2003 are not quite the same on the Mac Office. Otherwise, Office for Mac allows me to continue using my Apple in a PC dominated workplace. It was a good investment. 4 stars (Great!) - First off, apple users seem to always have a biased view on anything that says "microsoft" on the box. Then they go off on a tangent on how terrible Microsoft is, they find one thing that they disliked in the program and find grounds to give...

Microsoft Office Standard Student and Teacher Edition 2003

5 stars (I hate to Admit it...) - MS Office is actually an excellent product. As a Mac person, I wish I could say that I preferred Apple's Work products, but they are not as fast as the Microsoft Office equivalents. 5 stars (Must have software) - I purchased the student and teacher edition 2003 of microsoft office for my son who is in his first year of high school. He uses this software everyday for homework, and is teaching his old mom a few new tricks as well - best $120 I've spent in a long while. 5 stars (good product, way better price) - Amazon's price was so much better than Dell's! And the package that comes with the student version of Windows has all the applications that an average person needs which is great. ...

Microsoft Office Small Business Edition 2003 Upgrade

5 stars (MS Small Business) - I'm not a MS fan, but this is a great package for a small business owner who is interested in contact managment and sales as well as document and presentation work. 5 stars (Love it... But one HUGE problem...) - Howdy, I just wanted to share one BIG problem I've encountered. The "Business Contact Manager" (comes on a seperate disk) is NOT compatable with ANY version of "Intellisync". So, If you use a Palm device, you will not be able to use the Business Contact Manager and be able to sync your Palm on the same computer. Just wanted to give everyone a fair warning... 1 stars (MICROSOFT - TERRIBLE SUPPORT) - I made a terrible mistake in purchasing this upgrade. Having spent a total of 14 hours on phone with Microsoft Technical Support they were unable to get my PC to accept the upgrade. Microsoft grudgingly admitted they have a lot of glitches with Office 2003 and they plan to ship a revision on February, 28 2004. Meantime, Microsoft refused to issue a refund or offer any type of amicable solution. My battle with the 6,000 lb gorilla continues. ...

Microsoft Office Standard Edition 2003 Upgrade

1 stars (Don't even think about upgrading) - You need to get out more. Just the fact that you are looking at this page and are thinking of upgrading your Microsoft Office makes it clear that you have a problem. Don't believe the Microsoft advertisement featuring dinosaurs to announce "Microsoft Office Has Evolved." It hasn't. This is a mature product. It doesn't matter if you use Office 1997, 2000 or 2003. They are all the same. The good, the bad and the ugly. It is all still here. Maybe a few bugs have been fixed. Most haven't, and ther are always new bugs. If Microsoft took the time to really improve the software, that would be one thing. But they don't. Here is an example. You are in Outlook. You call up a contact and want to send that person a letter. You need to print an envelope, but there is no command to do so. There is no button to click. You can't right click anywhere to print an envelope. I am not making this up. Outlook has been out for almost ten years and multiple upgrades, and Microsoft still hasn't gotten around to implementing functionality to print a single envelope. Your only option (the on-line support confirms this) is to perform a mail merge. This is an elaborate process that is designed for printing thousands of envelopes for a bulk mailing. It involves opening multiple windows and setting all sorts of settings. You have to go through the ENTIRE PROCESS just to print a single envelope! What is more, the mail merge feature has bugs in it. It leaves blank lines in addresses that look atrocious, and it drops country names from addresses. It gives you options as to how you want country names treaed in addresses, but these all do nothing. Whatever option you select, Outlook leaves countries out of addresses when it prints envelopes. I could go on, but I won't. If you are using Office 2000 or even Office 1997, you aren't missing out on anything. There is absolutely no reason to shell out $400 for new software that does all the same things in all t...

Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006

2 stars (Not quite mature yet - someday maybe) - I was rather unimpressed by the Microsoft SBA, and have decided to return it to MS. It does not allow shipping weights on items!? All of the Add-ins that people on here are raving about, are far more expensive than you can get elseware if you look around. It seems that MS needs to make a commitment to this software to make it better than the rest, or it is just another MS app for MS fans. Microsoft programmers will love it, as will people with a high level of MS office integration on hand, as the import/export to excel is nice. Retailers can find better solutions if they look for them. We have decided to go with sql-ledger instead, its 20 times faster on the same machine, integrates with our website with the same amount of programming, and free for unlimited users! 5 stars (Great features, nice price) - I've just started working with SBA and am impressed with some of the features. As a long time QuickBooks user, I have always wanted to have a contact management software program to integrate with QuickBooks. I just didn't want to spend the 60 to 100 dollars and have an add-in that will not work when QuickBooks introduces a new version. Along comes SBA, and it fully integrates with Outlook with Business Contact Manager. Since I already use Outlook, no problem. In addition, this program has different price level capability, which is nice. It also allows a discount to be applied without having to create a Discount account in the chart of accounts. Sharing is easier than QuickBooks. You won't receive the message that SBA must be in single user mode to run some task (making it necessary for all other users to exit QuickBooks). An SDK (Software Development Kit) is available for downloading at no charge, making it easy to program using VB.net. Invoices can be created in Word, almost all reports can be exported to Excel, and most built-in reports are fine for daily use. You can import QuickBooks data, but you'll need ver...

Microsoft Office Small Business Edition 2003

5 stars (Good fit) - I'm a longterm MS Office user. The Small Business Edition is a perfect fit for my applications. 2003 is a very stable platform. 1 stars (Don't even think about upgrading) - You need to get out more. Microsoft Office 2004 Standard Mac

3 stars (OK) - You should only get this if you really nead it ... unfortunately, you probably do. Although overall this is a fairly decent attempt by Microsoft to make something asthetically pleasing and Mac like, it is hampered by the usual Microsoft problems: 1. It keeps 'helping' you when you don't want it to. Although you can presumably turn most of these features off you probably wont have the time or inclination to find out how to. So you'll have the pleasure of being confronted by offers to create Powerpoint slides when you open up Word, have brackets turned into smilies as well as a host of other random edits and substitutions that are correct maybe 10% of the time. 2. It is bloated with features most of which still don't work correctly. I would say this is slightly worse than the Windows version. For instance, the bulleting and numbering seems to go wrong or randomly switch between styles more often and the styles and header numbering is even less stable. In addition to these standard MS problems they've managed to make the whole thing run really very slowly. I'm using a G4 Powerbook and Word cannot even always keep up with my moderate touch typing speed (i.e. there is a noticable lag between typing and words appearing). If you are editing a document with lots of numbering then you will notice delays in the order of seconds when, for instance, deleting selections - even small ones. Overall: a decent looking release hampered by the usual Microsoft problems and a general sluggishness. 1 stars (You Can't Teach a Tiger a New Word) - The current version of Office2004 is NOT COMPATIBLE WITH TIGER!!! Microsoft Word will crash on you, and to a crippling degree. Do not buy this if you have a Mac, since you'll eventually upgrade to Tiger and Microsoft may or may not care enough to fix it. If you've got some sort of Microsoft addiction and intend to buy it anyway, you could always see if they've released a patch for it. Don't just take my word for it, check...

Microsoft Office Standard Edition 2003

4 stars ( Microsoft Office Standard Edition 2003 ) - The price was the best I could find. Ordering was hassle free and delivery was fast. 5 stars (Comprehensively Useful) - There is no other product which compares to the Microsoft Office suite. "Microsoft Office Standard Edition" is the place to get started. And it is the place you'll probably stay. You do need Word and Excel, and occasionally, PowerPoint. Learn basic word processing and spreadsheet usage. Shine in meetings with PowerPoint. Do you need to upgrade from XP? Not likely. There are no new features I found impressive after having the XP version for years. It lacks Access, but most people don't need the database strength of it, and will survive nicely with just Excel. For e-mailing documents and files to coworkers, you can be confident they'll easily open Office files. There is a good chance they use it themselves. Outlook is one of those highly underrated, but enormously useful applications to help you organize your contacts, schedule and tasks easily. You can use it as an e-mail reader as well, though that feature has been vulnerable to viruses. Word is a huge program which can do far more than you'll need, but it will allow you versatility and simplicity that WordPerfect has yet to pull off. Excel is a basic spreadsheet with incredible math functionality. I don't need most of the math tools, other than minor budgets and such. I find it handy for tracking my poetry submissions; I can see which magazine I sent which piece to when, and how and when they replied. PowerPoint makes those cool slideshows with the text that can be animated on the screen. With the templates, you can look good without requiring a graphic design degree. I fully recommend "Microsoft Office Standard Edition." It is the business and home office standard. You need it, it is easy to learn, and the price is right. Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 Upgrade

5 stars (2003 Upgrade) - For me the upgrade was a great thing. There had always been things about Office XP that just didn't work right. After the software was loaded, indeed I had some configuration issues. It worked, but it wasn't slick. But Microsoft Help stepped in. The software support guy took control of my computer using net-meeting and looked at all the configuration issues. Turned out to be some conflicts with my virus protection (I've had these before, P.N.) and with some Microsoft add-ins. Point is, he made the conflicts go away. Microsoft "help" has been a sometime thing, in the past. Today, it rose to the top shelf. I am quite happy with Office 2003. 1 stars (Don't even think about upgrading) - You need to get out more. Microsoft Office 2004 Standard Upgrade Mac

3 stars (Some interesting improvements - but keep your Office v.X Entourage) - Though there are improvement to the other programs, you'll want to keep your Entourage from the previous Office v.X version. The Office 2004 version of Entourage is more full of bugs than a bug-zapper on a Summer Sunday... during a picnic... at dusk... near a stagnant pond. You get the idea. Try to get your email, get an error. Try to print your email, get an error. Tell it to refresh, get an error. In all honesty, I haven't found an Entourage 2004 command yet that doesn't seem to resullt in some kind of error. The reason I'm still giving this three stars is my Excel and Word portions are responding faster and with greater ease than previously. Also, the fact that the standard installation does not include the whole-sale deletion of the previous version was the saving grace that still lets me get my email with the old Entourage. So kudos, because though the Office 2004 Standard Upgrade did put me up a river Entourage-wise, it did not leave me without a paddle. 5 stars (Cleaning up some confusion) - In Office 2004, Microsoft continues to support most Palm handheld devices. However, one common situation Microsoft has seen is that people upgrading from Office X to Office 2004 do not install the Office 2004 Handheld Sync software (which is found in the Additional Tools folder). Failure to do so results in sync failure. That said, Office 2004 Handheld Sync does not fully support the Palm Tungsten T3 or E [it is incorrect to say that it does not support any Tungsten T - it does!]. To enable sync with those devices, the user needs to go to the Conduit Settings and enable syncing capability with those devices. There are possible issues when this capability is enabled - and all of this is clearly documented in the read me that is installed when you install the Office 2004 Handheld Sync. 3 stars (Better than Office v.X) - This new version of MS Office for Mac OS X is definitely a big impr...

Microsoft Office is good The program that came with the package, Virtual PC, could not find the modem in my Mac ibook. 5 stars (Best version yet) - Best version of office for Mac yet. Much better than the windoz version, easier to use, better layouts of tools. Very simple to install and update, love the new notebook layout. Entourage has been greatly improved. works flawlessly. 5 stars (Mac Must-Have for Graphics Professionals) - For all those in the field of graphics and own a high-end graphics machine--this is a must-have program, as interfacing with windows users necessitates. ...

Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003

4 stars (Good product) - This is an upgrade for me. I've used MS Office for years and find it adequate for my needs. There are some automatic features in the newer versions that irritate me and they are not always easy to fix. 4 stars (Be sure of what you need) - There are many versions of Office, so be careful to order the one you need. For example, unless you are using Access databases you can save some money by going with the Small Business Edition instead of Professional, and still have rudimentary database and list functionality with Outlook, Excel, Word, plus PowerPoint and Publisher. As to whether the version upgrade is worthwhile, personally I think it is. We have a small office with some machines on 2000, some on XP, and some on 2003 (depending on date of pruchase). I'm looking forward to getting them all standardized on the 2003 version. 4 stars (Outlook 2003 is the big upgrade for me. Do you need the rest?) - Now that outlook does not download images by default. Spammers cannot tell if you opened up their email. And, for the same reason, if you like auto preview but turned it off because of potential malicious code you can fell more comfortable using it again. Another big help for those of you who use rules but had to keep your entire folder tree open to see if you have new email. Now there is an unread email view which groups by folder. Make sure you flag emails for follow up, because if you start using your unread folder view as you used your inbox in the past, read emails will disappear and you will forget to respond. Not to worry there is a follow up view as well. As for the other apps I have not used them to the extent that I use Outlook. I only run into new features as I need them and I just have not needed any other new features. ...

Microsoft Office 2004 Professional Upgrade Mac

4 stars (VP 7.0 is SUITE now that i finally got it installed!) - A great bargain - you get full office Professional, VP and full version of Windows for under $300 dollars. After waiting for months and months for Office 2004 Professional to be released, when it finally came out I was ecstatic. One problem: VP 7.0 wouldn't install on my G5, only on my laptop. I called Microsoft support and within minutes they told me that they were working on a patch for machines with over 2.0 GB of ram. I downloaded the update a week later when it came out and everything is now golden. The moral of the story is that Microsoft underestimates the needs of Mac users because they are used to wimpy PCs that have no ram! 2 stars (Nice suite, but Virtual PC 7 disappoints on my G5) - I purchased the upgrade since I'd already bought both Office v.X and Virtual PC 6.1 last year. The biggest letdown is that Microsoft's promised support for the G5 is nearly non-existent. I have a dual processor G5 with an ATI Radeon 9800 card (Apple), and after trying to install Virtual PC 7 three times, I cannot get a VM to work. It did install (and work) flawlessly on my G4 Powerbook. Googling for reviews finds it's very hit or miss, but if (when) it misses, you'll regret investing the extra $$$ in an immature product. ...

Microsoft Office Project 2003 Bible

1 stars (WHERE'S THE ACCOMPANYING CD????) - Beware, the book may be good, I just start reading it, but I can't look at the examples from the "accompanying cd" because Amazon hasn't made it available to me. I've written them 3 times and still no answer. Buy this book from the bookstore. Also, this ebook is very restrictive. I don't know if I can view it from other computers and it only allows me to copy 10 selections in 7 days, after that no more cutting and pasting.....beware of the limitations. I give this 1 star, not for content but for delivery and restrictions. spearsjunk@hotmail.com 5 stars (Very Useful) - I'm an engineer who uses Project in my work and this book has been a great help. Every time I've had a problem getting the software to do what I wanted this book has provided a clear and consise explanation that helped me get through the problem. I'd recommend it to anyone who uses Project for major projects and doesn't have time to waste finding an answer on how to get the software to do what you want it to. 1 stars (e-books a nightmare, beware the pdf e-book format!) - I recently bought this book in electronic format to save time with delivery and then also to give e-books a try. Afterall, they have benefits, like little storage requirements, portability, you can search them through, etc.. Well, it all turned out to be a nightmare experience :( First of all there is Adobe DRM (Digital Rights Management) which obviously limits you from opening the ebook PDF on any computer you like. Each time you want to read it on a different computer, say at work, you must go through a painstaking activation process. Excerpt from adobe store: "Adobe Reader 6.0 ebooks cannot be moved from machine to machine, as the security of the file is tied to the machine on which the ebook is downloaded." Not only that this takes all your time and energy, frustrates and enfuriates you it also does not work it turned out. I got server timeouts, "excuse us, but the server will be up runni...
