Horses for Dummies

4 stars ( Horses for Dummies ) - This is a great book. I liked the content and was able to get good advice on riding and taking care of my horse. It had been some time since I had ridden a horse and the review was very good for me. This book is great for beginners or advanced riders. 4 stars (BACK IN THE SADDLE...FOR THE FIRST TIME!) - HORSES FOR DUMMIES does an excellent job of introducing the horse lover to the ins and outs of horses and horse ownership. The book paints a fairly accurate picture of all that is involved in getting started, covering the gamut of gadgets and tack necessary, a variety of veterinary issues, housing, feeding, training...you name it. A good, sound preliminary overview. The one drawback to the book is that the authors go way overboard with trying to help the reader assess whether horse ownership is a realistic option. It seemed to me that they had perhaps seen some severe situations where people bought horses that really shouldn't have and they then vented their frustrations into this book. As a result they, in some cases, use a sledgehammer to swat the horse fly when a fly swatter would suffice. If taken too literally the book would be titled YOU DON'T REALLY WANT TO HAVE HORSES, DO YOU? and drive everyone except diehard cowboys away from even considering owning horses. Yes, owning horses is a big responsibility but I have only heard of a few extremely rare cases where horses truly suffered as the result of unprepared owners. However, I see this as a minor thing. Read the book for the great information that it imparts and don't let the stump speeches about whether you are ready to own a horse by the authors get in the way. THE HORSEMAN 5 stars (Very Informative) - Having been around horses most of my life, but never owning one, this book was a great help! I purchased it along with "The Whole Horse Catalog." Both books were on the same "page", if you will, regarding very important aspects of owning a horse, such as feeding, shoeing,...

We were fellow subscribers to the Horseman list until it fell into disuse, and when Gincy started her own list (Riding With Confidence) I subscribed immediately. Gincy is one of the best and most knowledgeable teachers of riding that I know, and she not only has years of experience behind her, but also specializes in helping timid, fearful and/or aging riders who have for some reason lost their confidence. She is uncanny at figuring out physical, mental and emotional problems and resolving rider error and is highly sympathetic to those who are having problems with riding or their horses, so it really came as no surprise that she would write a book to bridge the gap between horse and rider. This teacher turned writer has greater works yet to come, and this book is the first of such. It is in encyclopedic form, and easy to read and comprehend. Bravo, Gincy. 5 stars (You will like this one. . .) - All horsehandlers will appreciate the way Gincy has blended tried-and-true oldtime training methods with the best of the new ideas from Swift, Tellington-Jones, Parelli and others to help anyone create a safe, horse-friendly, stress-free stable environment...

The United States Pony Club Manual of Horsemanship - Basics for Beginners-D Level

5 stars (Susan Harris- Multitalented Communicator) - There is a saying that a picture is worth a thousand words. Susan Harris is not only a gifted artist ; drawing her explanations of concepts she is relating ; she draws pictures with her words, and for anyone lucky enough to attend one of her clinics , she draws explanations with body language. I am fortunate to have Sue as my friend and mentor for 30+ years & have told her often that "She could read the phone book to you & You'd never lose interest". She is also a gifted horsewoman & teacher. She posseses an ability to locate the crux of a lack of understanding & with empathy for both horse & rider guides them to a solution. If I had to limit my horse library to just a few books, her USPC manuels would be the first chosen. They are a wealth of information on all aspects of horsemanship , for every level of horseman , of any age. Her choice of words combined with her own illustrations gives very clear & interesting information.Sue stresses empathy for your horse & safety issues in every topic -2 basics to have ingrained in anyone who wishes to be around horses. I have recommended these books to all who share the "addiction" to horses with me. 5 stars (very good book to start with) - I advise anyone young who is seriously interested in horses to start with this book. I've been riding all my life and think this is a great book to start with and it is very informative. 5 stars (Very informative) - An excellent book, covers the basics well ...

Circus Ponies Notebook V1 2 Mac

5 stars (Using NoteBook daily for 3 months) - Finally I found a notebook program that does what I need, is well supported, and intelligently designed. My favorite feature is being able to drop whole files (or links to files, if I choose) into the notebook, and then be able to just click on them later for opening in the appropriate application. And for pdf or other image files, I can even preview them in a little frame while still in the notebook. The way the information is stored (normally invisible to the user) seems to be very robust. Any file which is dropped into the notebook retains its original form as a file inside the notebook bundle (which is really a unix directory). I now use the program for organizing all my notes at work (I'm a scientist) and at home. I have it open on my computer most of the time. I completely disagree with the reviewer who couldn't figure out how to use the program, even though he was experienced with computers. For me it was easy, and recently when I needed help with something, I sent email to the support address and got very helpful advice within only a few hours. I'm buying a copy for my dad now. 5 stars (A wonderful tool!) - Notebook (NB) is a powerful database disguised as an outline. Well, not really "an" outline, but a seemingly infinite series of intertwined outlines. You can use it on as simple a level as you wish - just treat it as if it were the spiral pad it pretends to be on the page (with very powerful lookup features) and you're already way ahead in the information storage and retrieval game. If you want to get a little more complicated, start to think about the implications of an outline made of a contents page (which lets you move the headlines beneath it around as you wish) and divider pages (which are the headlines on the contents page) - each of which is an outline itself, with the headlines of the divider page outlines referring to regular pages within the section marked by that divider. And, oh yes...
