Practical Research - Planning and Design 8th Edition

5 stars (Required Reading) - Practical Research actually is required reading for my Ph.D. Since it is a text book is does cost a lot. It was the same price at Amazon as it would have been to order it through my university. However, the shipping was free with Amazon, so I came out ahead. The book is well written, in plain English. The advice is practical. Some of the advice about using technology is a bit behind the times, but that is to be expected. The font size is small, but this would not be a problem for most people under 40. 5 stars (Great book for senior projects and thesis) - I have been trying to organize my thoughts for my thesis for quite sometime. One of my advisors suggested this book to help jump start things. The book outlines the literature review, abstract, etc and gives great examples as it goes. This book helped save my sanity during such a hectic time. The discussions about email and the internet are very outdated, however for those new to computers and internet research, it is a great intro. 5 stars (Easy To Read and Understand) - Research, it is safe to say, is probably not the average person's favorite course to take in school. The subject itself, for most, is bland and boring and probably not very accessible from a learning standpoint. Enter Leedy and Omrod. "Practical Research" is just an outstanding book to learn research from or to teach a research course with. First off, the book is small and it is written in simple language with "practical" examples. This makes the subject a lot more accessible to the average reader. Second, it contains lots of helpful hints and checklists to help make the learning process easier. The companion website for this book contains practice tests that the students can use to gauge their learning (as well as e-mail results to get feedback from the instructor). Algebra Unplugged

4 stars (A pleasure to read and excellent introduction to algebra) - Kenn Amdahl has succeeded in making algebra look like a game and maybe he is right. I recommend this book to anybody who has the slightest interest in the subject. It reads almost like listening to your mathematically inclined buddy exchanging a few words on mathematics over a beer; that's what I felt, two buddies getting together and just shooting breeze over mathematics. It certainly made me conscious of paying more attention to VOCABULARY and CONCEPTS and less on manipulation. You won't regret the time you spent on this book nor the money! 5 stars (FANTASTIC BOOK ON ALGEBRA!!!!!!) - THIS HAS GOT TO BE ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS ON ALGEBRA CONCEPTS THAT THERE IS ON THE MARKET. I AM OVER 60 YRS. OLD AND WANTED TO STUDY ALGEBRA. I ONLY WISH THERE EXISTED MATH TEACHERS WITH THE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE CONCEPTS AS CAN THESE GENTELMEN. WOULD GIVE 10 STARS IF POSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!! 5 stars (Quadratic!) - Algebra were one of the greatest avant-garde prog rock bands of the nineties. In " Algebra Unplugged " Amdahl and Loats have put together an incredible compilation of some of their best acoustic live sets. The production, is at times, a little weak, but the heart-rending "ax * ax + bx + c = 0" recorded live in Lecture Theatre 2.13 is probably one of Algebra's finest moments. There's some real gems on this album - The stunning 15 minute opus "Quadratic/Equivalence" being a case in point. A couple of tracks grate a little, most noticably - "Simplifying Exponents of Polynomials" but on the whole this is a magnificent album and is not to be missed. ...

Kaplan GMAT-GRE-LSAT 2004 Deluxe Edition

1 stars (For GMAT, avoid this dog!) - I bought this product to help me study for the GMAT. I was particularly interested in the PDA flashcards for the GMAT so I could study on the go. There are two major issues with this product for me: 1) They do not explicitly say that the included software is identical to the GMAT 800 software, which I had already bought. Not too big of a deal, since I really just wanted the PDA software, but it would have been nice if this were noted in the product description. 2) Many of the PDA flashcards have serious errors on them. On the flashcards, there is a Question tab, and an Answer tab. For some flashcards, the answer on the answer tab wasn't even one of the options. On other flashcards, the description isn't correct, or leaves out special cases (and is thus wrong). They obviously put this product out too early and/or did not subject it to any quality control, and I have not seen any updates on their website. Actually, I haven't seen ANY updates for anything on their site. If I could do it over, I would have just bought the GMAT 800 book/CD combo instead. The flashcards are virtually worthless. ...

1 stars (Faulty Software) - When my daughter used this product, it did not save the scores on her practice, so she could not progress through the program. This is a major flaw. 3 stars (good review, campy delivery) - I am mid 20's, about to finish a military enlistment and preparing to return to college. This program was very good at refreshing concepts and providing alot of practice tests. However the method of delivery is campy. It feels like it was prepared for a 6th grade audience, cartoon like sound effects, silly music, etc. I would have given this 4 stars if the maturity level of delivery was more in line with the 16-18 year audience it should be aimed at. ...

Defensive Driving Course

1 stars (A Waste of Time!) - I got this because I liked the fact that I would be able to finish the course from my home and you would get an official certificate of completion at the end which you are supposedly able to send in to the DMV and your insurance company, which will then help lower your rates. Three problems - First, it took FOREVER with lots of e-mails and phone calls to get them to finally mail me my certificate! Second, the insurance company did not accept their certificate and Third, the DMV does not recognize this course as a Certified Defensive Driving course. No wonder they were dragging their heels on sending me my certificate! If you're planning on spending days on your defensive driving skills so you can send in your certificate to the DMV & your insurance company, don't waist your time with this! ...
