The Nursing Mother-s Companion- Fifth Revised Edition Nursing Mother-s Companion Paperback

5 stars (The Best Nursing Book You Can Buy) - I discovered this book two months into breastfeeding, and wished I had found it sooner. Everything you possibly need to know about nursing is under one cover. Unlike most other breastfeeding books that only discuss nursing a newborn, this book contains information on nursing newborns through toddlers. Highly recommend this book for all nursing mothers. 5 stars (Excellent nursing book!) - I bought this book as I am expecting my second baby and had problems nursing the first. I went through at least half a dozen lactation consultants with my first before I got the info I needed to make breastfeeding successful, and this was after the first two weeks and after my baby was hospitalized due to dehydration. I wish I had this book then, as it covers everything I needed to know about poor latch/insufficient milk supply. I am learning so much as I read the book and feel so much more confident as I approach the birth of my second. This book covers every issue I think you could come across with breastfeeding. 5 stars (Lots of good info) - Great book. Actually answered some questions (one in particular) for which I'd been unable to find answers elsewhere. Including at the Medela booth at a professional conference. Highly recommended, nonpartial, good book. ...

Conversations with God - An Uncommon Dialogue Book 1

5 stars (Conversations With God (Trilogy): Book Review) - This is a trilogy capturing a dialogued communication by Neale Donald Walsh. Book 1. How many of us, and how many times have we asked the questions about Life, about God? Well, herein (CWG: book 1) lie the answers. While larger truths are described - that of God and Life, deeper truths are also discussed - that of Self (us). The talk covers human concepts of "right" and "wrong", "good" and "evil", karma, thought, the soul, reincarnation and many more. Damaging myths are laid to rest. But wait, it gets controversial too, religion and sexuality come into the picture, tasty reading indeed. I have one word for the book: Profound! ~~~~~~~~ Book 2 broadens the understanding of the Self to human society and geopolitics, touching on our education system and further covering the sexuality topic. This book answers questions to wars and starvation, delving straight into the root of our problems, some of which are our educational system and our accepted political and geopolitical systems. There are some topics or reflections which I personally find very hard to digest, and I also feel large parts of society will also struggle to accept - this being our sexuality. From this however it is suggested, though self evident, that things like rape become non-existent. Discussing geopolitical and society issues, the book brings disconcerting clarity to the states of us and the states of our nations, while also offering suggestions to evolve to states where we really want to be - that is if we as a nation think hard and deep to realize where or who we really want to be. If "state of human life" is a topic that grabs your attention - I highly recommend "Conversations With God, Book 2". ~~~~~~~~ Book 3 revisits issues from Book 1 and book 2 in much broader perspective. Comparisons are drawn to other beings, highly evolved beings, reflecting the primitive state of our species. In this the dangers of our self-destructive ...

It Takes a Family - Conservatism and the Common Good

1 stars (Lacking Respect for Others) - In forty brief chapters Santorum speaks about conservatism, marriage and the American family through the lense of his Catholic faith. He describes Americans as "stewards" whose "task is to secure and increase this patrimony [our inheritance] for our children". What is this patrimony? It is social, economic, moral, cultural, and intellectual "capital". Santorum believes that the family "is at the center of all the types of capital". But his is a rigid and exclusive definition of family - there can only be one mother and one father. Nor is it the family found in the Bible since those often included multiple wives and concubines. It is subtitled, "Conservatism and the common good". The difference between liberals and conservatives is their concept of freedom. Santorum says liberals, or, as he derogatively calls them, "village elders", want "the freedom to be and to do whatever [they] want - freedom to choose, irrespective of the choice, freedom without limits (with the obligatory caveat that you can't hurt anyone else directly)." Opposed to this is the conservative view of freedom. "Properly defined, liberty is freedom coupled with responsibility to something bigger or higher than the self. It is the pursuit of our dreams with an eye toward the common good." The question is who gets to define what is meant by the common good? My guess would be conservatives. Further, "the foundational social unit that instills a devotion to such liberty and that stands against [often sexual] No-Fault Freedom's toxic effects is the traditional family." "Village elders" view human nature differently than conservatives. Santorum believes "conservatives follow the traditional Judeo-Christian worldview, which includes the concept of original sin .... A view of human beings as fallen creatures given to sinfulness." And later, "the truth is that human beings are not born naturally inclined to do the right thing." Is he still livin...
