5 stars (Crisis Preparedness Handbook: A Complete Guide to Home Storage and Physical Survival) - Great book. I really don't see how one could be any better on this subject. The author has a very organized mind, has done his homework, and gives very specific recommendations that are practical and easy for anybody to follow. No wasted space or filler in this book. It's really a reference manual that you'll end up underlining and refering back to again and again. I highly recommend it. 5 stars (a great resource) - This is a great book for anyone interested in surviving any disaster. There is no telling what the future may hold, but this book is a good start in any survival library. 5 stars (One of the best out there.) - This book is well though out, organized in a simple and logical manner, and gives you plenty of information to design your own plan for a crisis of any kind. Unlike other books that just offer a bunch of check lists and "buy what I tell you" recommendation, this book allows you to make your own decisions of what you will and will not need to stock for a crisis. Additionally, much of this can be done on a budget, much of what you would need are your usual grocery items, in canned form. This is a huge savings over many of the dehyrated and freeze dried options normally presented in survival literature. Overall, if you are looking for a book to use as a basis for which to begin planning for a crisis, this is it. ...

Love Must Be Tough - New Hope for Families in Crisis

5 stars (Excellent book, but you must have the fortitude to follow!) - Dr. Dobson is 100% correct in his methods. It IS guidance by the Lord. Showing TOUGH LOVE is the only way to help someone you love. Be it your spouse, a child or a relative. The methods in this book are not tricks. They delve into the psychology of what happens when someone feels "caged" in a relationship. It's based on the well known fact "the harder you try and hold on to someone, the harder they fight to get away." And this book is not just for Marriage issues. Dr. Dobson lists 16 things you need to know when you enter into a relationship that can keep you from blowing it. Had I known then what I know now, I would be upset at myself. I blew 14 of the 16 things and it's no wonder she ran away calling me "clingy" and "soft." I was and Dr. Dobson showed me exactly why. This book is NO GUARANTEE that you will win your spouse or significant other back. But, like anything else, if you don't do something you will more assuredly lose them anyway. Pray hard and read this book if you want to keep them. Learn to give them space. While I may have blown my chances with my ex (and I think I have) at least I am sure I will never repeat the same mistakes again. Single or Married, you need this book! 1 stars (Awful, Awful, Awful) - If your husband or wife just left and you are in the middle of the confusion and despair of that situation DO NOT follow the suggestions in this book! Trust me, go to the Lord in prayer, seeking only Him for your answers, He is absolutely faithful. Don't talk to your neighbors, friends, relatives, counselors or anyone until you talk to Jesus. He is your only hope and this book's advise is definitely not recommended if you want your spouse back!! I would never even sell this book for fear of the distruction it can cause. Crisis Intervention Strategies with InfoTrac

2 stars (Skip the profanity) - A fairly good text, it probably covers the field better than other available sources. However, the selection of illustrations seem to be chosen based on how much profanity they can include. I realize that crisis situations involve people who don't monitor their usage, but why include every F--- and other curse word when they aren't needed to convey the meaning. I teach large classes and probably won't adopt this title because of the gratuitous inclusion of verbal static. 5 stars (An invaluable tool in the field of mental health.) - Gilliland and James have successfully created an extremely comprehensive introduction to crisis intervention methodology in this text. While lacking some historical perspective on the development of this methodology, the book incorporates a variety tools useful to the mental health professional. These tools well make up for the exclusion of a short history on crisis intervention. The authors clearly defined various helping situations (i.e., suicide, sexual assault, spousal abuse, and chemical dependency) and demonstrated how their applications assisted in the resolution of these issues. Furthermore, Gilliland and James added the sections on extreme circumstances, such as hostage taking, as well as professional concerns, such as burnout. For those entering the field, this text provides a wealth of information. Those that are well seasoned will still find this a useful reference. On first glance, I was surprised to find this text so easily read, particularly when dealing with such a serious subject, yet I have returned to it time and again in my own practice for ideas and direction.
