4 stars (NICE TOOL WITH FUTURE POTENTIALS) - In the world of software, efficiency matters. And despite its lesser known name, the "ZoneAlarm Antivirus 2006" package remains one of the most potent antiviral software available today. The news that this supposedly antivirus package comes with an equally effective internet security firewall will gladden the hearts of its users. Quite unlike other newly introduced packages, there are few but negligible bugs in this software. And with its relatively cheap retail price, such a minor issue could be easily accommodated. Twice I have installed this software, twice I was impressed by how smooth the entire procedure ran. Not even the most notable names in antiviral software have produced anything that has positively surprised me in this regard. I experienced zero hang-ups, zero blue screens: and no incompatibility hassles whatsoever, emerged. Apart from the fact that this software slows down system performance, as it runs in the background, there is nothing that I can honestly accuse it of. Even at that, all utility software (including antiviral and firewall ones) are famous for draining performance resources: and this suite did it to a lesser extent when compared to either 'Norton' or 'McAfee'. One more thing aspiring users of this product should note is that you have to deactivate your operating system's firewall, if you intend to use the firewall component of this suite. This last statement applies only to those who are running Windows XP (be it Home or Professional edition). Failure to do this will likely create more conflicts and other related problems. Overall, this is a fine piece of software to use. It silently executes its responsibilities with minimal strain on your hardware. It is an utility programme, which is likely to get better as future editions emerge. ...

ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 2006

5 stars (Best of what I've seen) - If you want a good security progam that's not a resrouce hog this is the best of what I've seen. I had a prior version Norton Internet Security and was very pleased with it. I ignored poor reviews and complaints about recent versions of NIS and upgraded when the older version was no longer supported. I should have heeded the reviews as all their problem became mine. It noticeably slows down your computer, your email, your web browsing...and has applicaiton errors when you shutdown/log off windows. After one month I took a risk and purchased Zone Alarm 2006 and have been extremely pleased. No, it's not "perfect" but it works well, actually seems to catch things NIS didn't and it doesn't slow down the computer (noticeably better performance than NIS). Like NIS it does occassionaly have some program errors when shutting down or logging off...but **much** fewer than NIS..and I think they only occur after the pc has hibernated (which seems to be a common issue with a lot of software). The alerts that ZA pop up whenever a program first attempts to access the internet (or ZA when suspects it could compromise security) are probably excessive and somewhat cryptic for the average user....but you can tell ZA to not ask you again. And you get use to the alerts...and these days it's far better to have a security program have a few too many of these alerts than to just assume. As a web programmer I have to use McAfee at work and it's such a hog I always have to commit the sin of turnning it off whenever I'm doing anything complex (big program builds, installs). Everybody likes something different for different reasons. I mainly want a product to work..and to not cause grief to my computer, other programs or my work. 1 stars (The trouble with Zone Alarm...) - I was given Zone alarm as part of a package with another piece of software that I needed for work. From the minute I installed zone alarm I knew it was a mistake. Zone Alarm has two modes: 1. Mother in law mode- it wants to know what you are doing, what you are looking at, how you are doing it EVERYTHING which makes configuring it a big task. The other mode it has is annoying child mode: in this mode it is attention seeking and will bombard you with questions when all you want to do is use the net. If this wasn't enough to give you second thoughts then uninstalling zone alarm is an even bigger task. The thing will not go quietly and, even after installation, it was still blocking all of my messenger programs and my ping requests. The internet is full of frustrated pc owners trying to find a way to completely uninstall it and remove all of the little obscure files it litters your computer (which I had to remove manually by searching for each one in turn) I dare you to type 'uninstall zone alarm' in to a search engine and see what you find. Zone alarm is one of those peices of software which has gotten worse in more recent versions (partition magic is another), the earlier ones were great and easy to configure but now zone alarm is the main attraction and heaven forbid you wanted to look at anything on the net without being asked a list of questions first. Their are better firewalls than zone alarm e.g. Black ice. Just look through the reviews on Amazon 5 stars (Zone Alarm is great but...) - Zone Alarm is a good firewall program and anti virus program but it what would make them top notch would be to add an ip proxy option. Don't get me wrong, Zone Alarm beats Norton any day of the week, but I don't understand how these companies can claim privacy when your data is still transfered through your ip address. I hope someone of significance reads this and works to change this over-sight. ...

Zone Labs ZoneAlarm Security Suite 2005 Old Version

3 stars (ZoneAlarm does the job, but it irritates...) - This software installed just fine. Our biggest beef is that we don't know what it's doing behind the scenes. The logs are pitifully thin. On a daily basis, our system "goes to sleep", and we're convinced it's due to ZA doing something behind the scenes. On a number of occasions, the Anti-Virus sweep has kicked off in the middle of a busy day, instead of running at its appointed time of 1:30 AM, when we're asleep. And many of the configuration screens where you can click boxes don't have enough information (for this novice, anyway) to make an informed decision about whether "to check or not to check". It seems to be less intrusive the Norton, but less intuitive, too. We just want to know what it is doing on our behalf, and the logs sure don't tell any stories. 1 stars (Program has bugs) - I have used the Zonlabs Firewall for several years. It works fine. I can not say the same for the Security Suite. The AntiSpam function does not update definitions and ZoneLabs Tech Support know they have a problem. They are working on it but no date for a fix. Do not buy this software until all the bugs are fixed. 1 stars (No record of Puchasing this Product Rating Zero thus far) - I do not have any recolection of purchasing this product, nor can I find it on my computer or in any of my hard non computer files. I have always ordered a hard disk back up of all purchases from Zone Alarm. There is no hard disk no Computer file. I am about to raise you Know what about this charge on my credit card. I will challenge it if I do not receive for what I am being charged. I will also ask My credit card Co. for a new number to prevent future charges from these folks. ZoneAlarm Pro 5 Firewall + Privacy Protection

4 stars (Not that great with Windows 9x) - I'm about ready to ditch my copy. I have run ZA PRO for a year now. In the beginning it seemed to do it's job and stay out of my way. But like any software product nowadays, it is becomming more and more bloated. Check your oil? Wash your windshield? Just get out of my way so I can use my computer, is that too much to ask? Tonight I had to reboot twice because of ZA Pro. Admitedly, I'm still hanging on to Windows 98 and 256k of memory. If these are you creditials also, then maybe like me, you may start thinking about a hardware firewall. In the year I've used ZA, my PC hasn't been compromised, so I guesss that's worth 4 stars. But it should not cause me 30 minutes out of my day just to keep it parked should it? 2 stars (Watch out for the version 6 upgrade!!) - Hey, I've used ZoneAlarm for years and agree that it's a fairly good firewall for the money. However, watch out for the latest version (version 6)!! It hosed my computer. It forgot all the settings I've had on it for the past five or so years. Every application on my computer that accesses the internet is no longer working including Internet Explorer and my email. They added this new feature Smart Defense that doesn't seem too smart so far. They also changed all your program permissions to Block. You have to physically go in and change them back to Ask just to get it to prompt you for access to the internet. Then they amazing broke the Remember this Setting option so it prompts you again and again. Anyway, you get the picture and I can sleep knowing you have been warned. The latest upgrade is terrible. 4 stars (excellant product-alarm zone) - technical support is almost non-existent, because of this i will look to another product. this is unacceptible. ...
