1 stars (Is this for Real????????) - To Follow All THe Advice Of This Author. You Would Have to Live The Rest of You're Life In a PLASTIC BUBBLE. This guy should be arrested for writing this B.S. and ripping buyers off. 1 stars (Scam artist) - How can this guy convince people that he holds the cures to diseases and ailments and then get them to fork over money to be enlightened? I had to talk my girlfrineds mother out of buying this turd. The guy is an admitted felon and con-artist and still people send him money. It's sad that he can pray on the fears of the general public and create more disinformation on the pharmaceutical industry. He's an oportunistic bottom feeder out to make a quick buck on fear and false hope. I think there is a place for alternative medicine but his book contains no real information and worse yet, dangerous information. I hope there is a special place in hell for folks like him 2 stars (Read first - Buy next) - I think this book is not as bad as some portray it. Some of the reviews here are on the edge of being hateful, and I think it's wrong. A review should be about the contents of the book, not about the way one feels about the author. I bought the book and I did find some useful info about alternative medicine. There is also lots of insight about the way big money influences the decision making of FDA. Having said all that, I must admit that I have expected much more from "Natural Cures". No doubt Kevin Trudeau is a good promoter. He is so convincing in his infomercials that it is really hard not to buy the products he advertises. However, the book is everything else but what one would expect to get judging by the title and the infomercial. Supposedly I would get a lot more at the authors' website. 3 stars (Danielle's summary review) - The things they carried is a great book by Tim O'Brien. Jimmy cross has a crush on a college girl named Martha, he knows she will never return his love because she majors in English and went to a movie on a single date to see Bonnie and Clyde and he put his hand on her knee and she looked at him and ordered him to pull his hand back. Now cross is in Vietnam and he really misses martha. The things that that they carried in thier packs depended on what kind of constitutions and personalities they had, like marijuana, bug repellant etc.. The stronger men got to carry the guns. Cross was the map keeper and basically had to protect his men. Lavender got shot, but cross didnt really care because he was focused to much on Martha and how much that he missed her. The things they carried is basically and introspective memory story and self-conscious examination of the methods and reasons behind storytelling. The narrator is unreliable; he speaks of the necessity of blurring truth and fiction in a true war story. The settings are during the late 1960's and late 1900's in Vietnam and Massachussets. The major conflict is the men of the Alpha Company, especially Tim O'Brien, grapple with the effects - both immediate and long term - of the vietnam war. Themes are physical and emotional burdens;fear of shame as motivation; the subjection of truth to storytelling. 5 stars (The Things They Carried) - This book gives outstanding insight into rhe Vietnam War and the people that served in it. The Things They Carried is a very enjoyable book; after you get through the first 10 or so pages you'll want to read the whole thing. I'm not normally into reading books, but I really liked this book and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes a well told set of stories. Meaning, this book isn't just one story, but instead a set of stories told through the eyes of multiple characters. Regardless of whether you like that in a book or not, READ THIS BOOK! ...

4 stars (When the Going Gets Weird) - Reading "Hey Rube" is a bit of a disorienting experience. Doc narrates his gambling-man take on parts of four different football seasons, and it all starts to run together long before the paperback concludes on page 243. Honestly, by the end, I couldn't keep track of who had won which Super Bowl, and whether or not HST beat the point spread. Are the Raiders still in the league? Reading a collection of ESPN.com colums covering November 2000 through October 2003 in something far quicker than real time is perhaps not the way Hunter S. Thompson is meant to be read. The columns that stuck in my memory, oddly enough, were not the Gonzo columns (except for the stories about Prince "Omar" running through the 2001 World Series). The single column take on Dale Earnhardt's death at the Daytona was the first reprint in the book to grab me by the lapels of my T-shirt. The discussion of the Honolulu Marathon raises a point so amazing I can't believe I hadn't read it elsewhere before -- in what other sport do professionals and amateurs compete on the same course and the same time? I wish the editing of "Hey Rube" had been a bit tighter. The back cover blurb promises "critics' favorites, and never-before-published columns"... without identifying inside the book which is which. The first "Hey Rube", from November 2000, is printed out of sequence and highlighted on a gray background.... and that's the only column in the collection to be given special treatment. Finally, the paperback ends in mid-October 2003, not compiling the balance of HST's columns through February 2005. We thus miss his take on the 2004 Presidential election. Did Kerry win? Did Doc cover the 3-point popular vote spread? ESPN.com still has these final columns archived.
