How to Become a Great Boss- The Rules for Getting and Keeping the Best Employees

1 stars (If you want to become a great boss, don't read this) - Fox uniquely attempts to give suggestions on how to keep the best employees. Fox divides his book into fifty short stories that sometimes include a real life situation. Many of his anecdotes have serious flaws in the basic principles of Organizational Behavior, while others do not fully explain how to handle potential problems. There are instances where his suggestions can be very useful in becoming a good manager. At other times, his stories have good concepts, but do have loopholes. If you were interested in only seeing a small picture of the steps to becoming a great manager, then I would recommend this book to you. Fo'xs numerous weaknesses on motivation make me believe that he does not understand some of the basic concepts of motivation. Furthermore, his continual discussion of avoiding mishires, without any description on how to do that, further weakens his arguments. I believe this book is for more experienced managers and educated employees who know to extrapolate the good ideas in the book, and ignore the bad. 2 stars (Very General ) - These are the basics... Some mangers probably need this but I would like to think that most are beyond this kind of general and obvious information. I got this book on CD and it was boring, I hate to imagine what it would be like to have read it. I recomend Primal Leadership. 1 stars (Not the least bit helpful) - I normally don't write reviews but I just read this book and I couldn't believe how much of a waste of money it was. Here's the book in a nutshell- Hire good employees and fire bad ones. ...

Home Comforts - The Art and Science of Keeping House

5 stars (Domestic Goddess of Domestic Tranquility) - Thoroughly up-to-date, this handbook of household management addresses all the issues of keeping the modern house, including the "why" of keeping house. We keep house because there is a basic need to be clean and well-ordered in our homes. Our health and safety depend on knowing how to keep the foodstuffs safe, how to clean our living areas, and how to help keep our homes safe from outsiders. There is also great mental comfort in doing these tasks. The role of Goddess of Domestic Tranquility is a worthy one, and one might as well be a well-informed GDT. The topics are well-researched and the advice on how to keep one's goods in good condition is superior. Besides the material condition of the house, the paperwork condition is also addressed, with thorough explanations of the hows and whys of various insurances, contracts, and employing others to assist in household maintenance. I keep this book where I can reach it easily as it gets as much use as my Yellow Pages and favorite cook book. 5 stars (From 'cleaning' to 'housekeeping'.) - I'm a messy person. My mother would tell you this. My mother is, like her mother, an obsessive-compulsive cleaner, but not especially organized. I rebelled against the cleaning, which left me with nothing. No, this book isn't a miracle worker. It didn't magically turn me into Martha Stewart. However, I'm not atypical. I was born in 1981. My mother never taught me how to make hospital corners and make up the bed so that I was comfortable, fold clothing so that it actually fit well in the drawers, how to do laundry other than 'wash light stuff and dark stuff separate' and her idea of the hardiness of leftover food is still very optimistic. Home Comforts can't replace learning from a loved family member. For the many of us who didn't have that option, it's invaluable. It's not just the how, but the why; not just about being immaculate but about being comfortable at home....

98 6 Degrees- The Art of Keeping Your Ass Alive

5 stars (Highly Recommend Reading It) - I liked this book very much. Its a no nonsense approach to a topic that many writers pretend they are experts in. The proof is in the pudding. The author is an excellent teacher. He makes a hard subject easy to grasp and understand, versus the many teachers I have had in various subjects, who make an easy topic hard to understand. . . . 5 stars (It kept my ass alive!) - Prior to embarking on a rugged solo day hike in AZ's Superstition Wilderness, I read this book cover to cover. (I'm a middle-aged, East Coast trail hiker who hasn't hiked recently, so survival was a major consideration.) My desert day hike turned into an overnight stay on a canyon ledge far from the trailhead. Thanks to Cody Lundin's book, I maintained a "party on" attitude, was fully prepared (both with equipment and mentally), and spent a fabulous night watching the stars. The right attitude is everything! Enjoyed the humor and common sense approach of his writing. His examples stick with you when you need them. Great tips on putting together a practical, personal survival kit that will work anywhere. There's now one in my pack and one in my car. Lots of useful information on how to overcome fear and keep your head. 4 stars (It's good) - This is a good book that tells you how to stay alive. It also tells about what your body would do in certain situations, and how to prevent the bad situations from happening. Also, it tells you how to make things. It tells you a little about how to clean animals so you can eat them. So, over all I would get this book if you don't know a lot about how to survive, and you want to learn how. ...
