Norton Internet Security 2006

1 stars (Internet Security) - I cannot install it and cannot even remove it from my computer. And I decided to throw it away. How trrible experience it is. 1 stars (Will not install, no technical support) - I bought Norton Internet Security 2006 2 weeks ago and it will not install. If you can get it to run install, all you get are error messages and it will abort the installation. A call to the technical support and they hung up before I could ask any questions. Needless to say, I think that it is a buggy program and Norton's technical assistance is non-existent.I would not recommend anyone to buy this product. 1 stars (Does not identify virus; no way to notify Symantec of viruses it cannot identify) - I have had an adware virus (Virtumondo)(creator Virtumonde) on my pc for over a month. Symantec can not detect it or remove it. Microsoft AntiSpyware detects it, but is unable to successfully remove it. Symantec has a removal tool for adware.VirtuMonde, but it also cannot detect it to remove this variant. There used to be a means to report (new) virus problems to Symantec, but apparently no more. Their only option is to pay them $39.95 to $69.95 (again) to help you find and remove a virus. I don't have a problem with a solution for a new variant of a virus not being available immediately, but I do after a month and I do with them assuming they know everything and do not need to provide a means to report viruses Symantec cannot detect. I've been a Norton customer for many years; not anymore. ...

Norton AntiVirus 2006

1 stars (Please do not buy this product!) - A friend of mine was having trouble with their PC (computer would reboot during startup continually, relatively new PC). After doing a full HD format, XP reinstall (including all updates) everything worked fine. However, after installing Norton 2006 Antivirus the computer slowed down considerably and after two-three startup / shutdown sequences would begin to reboot during startup again (i.e. never get to the Start menu). I reinstalled XP three times (plus did hardware diagnostic checks). Norton 2006 has to have some bugs in it as XP runs fine until Norton 2006 is installed. I concluded that the problem was Norton as I shut off the AV monitoring through msconfig and the computer worked fine. There were no errors when I installed the product. I did a final reformat etc. but put on a competitor's antivirus product and now have no problems at all. I have been using Norton products for 10 years and been working with PC's for over 20. I had installation issues with Systemworks 2005 but stuck with the product. Once I saw the problems with Norton 2006 (thankfully not on my PC) I took Norton off my own computer and switched to something else (with one month left on my subscription). Don't waste your time with this, there are other options that work. 2 stars (AV 2006 intallation and registration problems) - I have installed it, removed it and re-installed it. It finally said the product was activated. but it was not as the subscription was marked as expired before I began. By calling an 800 number I was finally able to get an unlock key and the activation/subscription issue was resolved. It has never managed to register the product key on their server. I tkeeps sayning cant do that now try again later. If you allow it to scan for some of the things other than virus, worms, adware and spyware, it get hung up in scanning the _Restore directory. Some of their earlier products were more user friendly. 5 stars (Works Like A Champ...

Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 0 Plus Premiere Elements 2 0

4 stars (NICE AND AFFORDABLE TOOL FOR HOBBYISTS) - For the non-professional artist and/or film-maker, this is as good as image-making gets. The combination of Photoshop Elements 4.0 and Premiere Elements 2.0 let you take your hobby to the very top without breaking the bank. Despite running much slower than the 3.0 edition, Photoshop Elements 4.0 has a number of new improvements going for it: particularly when it comes to enhancing and arranging images. Flexible range of manipulative features were included in this regard. Still, I was disappointed that Adobe decided to remove the useful file-browser feature, (which was present in the Photoshop Elements 3.0 edition). Also, Premiere Elements 2.0 is capable of handling any amateur video and audio assignment that you may want to assign to it, but be warned that it is memory-hungry. Running this video-editing application on any computer with less than 512MB of RAM may end-up testing your patience to the fullest. Unless your patience compares to that of the biblical Job, do consider it wise to upgrade your RAM (if it is less than 512MB). In terms of processor, any Pentium 4 (or its corresponding equivalent) will deliver a decent performance. The same applies to dual Pentium III equivalents. A single Pentium III processor (or its equivalent) is not the best option here! Finally, another good thing about this software bundle is that they support a wide range of digital photo cameras and video cameras. The learning curve for both Applications is not that steep. For the average person, one week of dedicated studies (and practice) will get you mastering upto 90% of their capabilities. 5 stars (Tnx to Adobe providing best software for Hobbyiest User) - Thanks to Adobe for giving lots of features that I want for my need in single box so called Adobe Premiere Elements 2. It's good to resize all panels in single click and no need to take care about other panels, they automatically arrange. I recently bought Canon Optura 500 that...

Microsoft Age of Empires 3

2 stars (Splendid graphics, but...) - Ok, I'll start with the graphics. I have high end PC (AMD 64-bit 3500+, Radeon X800XT 256mb, S-ATA Western Digital, 2 GB RAM) and there were no troubles with running the game at highest settings. The game is really beautiful - there are flying birds, crocodiles, the terrain is funny when you zoom on it. But for me this is the only good thing in the game. For example, why the **** you need that animated traveling steam engine? It does not change anything in the game. Only increases the lag in the game... You have many nations to choose from, but the final result is the same upgrades, almost the same units. I and one mate of me played the game over the LAN. He was with the Russians, me with the English guys. Practically, the only difference was that the Russians speak in Russian... I don't think that having the home town is big advantage. About the maps - I did not find random generated maps, which for me is big issue. I want to play every time on different maps. This gives me much more fun than to play on a map that I already know. And finally, when I wanted to uninstall the game it took me a lot of time just waiting to initialize uninstalling process. The whole process took about 3 minutes! In general the game lost the feeling of its predecessors. I don't feel it like AoE II. BTW, the same is with the EA II. For me much better are AoE II and the first EA. So, I'm going to sell my copy of AoE III and keep playing Empires Dawn of the Modern World. 4 stars (Not bad at all!) - I was a little antsy about picking up this title. A lot of the reviews are extremely mixed and offered up a wide variety of pros and cons for this game. I became a hard boiled fan of AOE1 way back when it first came out and you'd often find me facing off with friends via LAN while my Phonecian war elephants ran amok through their ranks. AOE2 was even better, allowing better tactics for your infantry and cavalry as well as great seige equipment and castles. So ...

Quake 4

5 stars (More like Halo than Doom.) - Doom 3 is my favorite FPS of all time, due to the atmosphere and total immersion. Quake is nothing like this. Half Life 2 was good if you like long stretches of boredom with small spurts of easy combat. Quake is better than this. While I had hoped Quake 4 would be based on the original Quake, a game which was the Doom 3 of its time as far as scary atmosphere, and the Counterstrike of its time as far as multiplayer, Quake 2 served as a suitable base for the game. Quake is an action game, pure and simple. It is very immersive in the war against the Strogg, and reminds me a lot of a more adult, mature, and bloody halo. Lots of Baddies, great vehicles, linear, and even better weapons. The storyline is good enough, with some twists here and there. People love to whine about the AI, well you dont need good AI when you have like 5 ppl attacking at once from different directions. Whats the point? Your squadmates have the best AI I've ever seen. Graphics are unbelievable if you have a good system, but there is no darkness to hide the flaws if you have a mediocre system. Doom 3 runs much better than Quake. Multiplayer is a quake 3 clone + lag, dont buy it for that. Half life 2's engine is so much better for multiplayer. So if you like an overrated doom 3 clone system hog with japanese-style horror over the red white and blue gore of ID software, buy F.E.A.R. If you like non linear games, buy Far Cry. If you like boring puzzle games that mix shooting with Tetris, but Half Life 2. And if you like Halo style action + a hard edge, buy Quake 4 . 4 stars (Not to be compared to Doom 3. An amazing game from the masters.) - First off let me say that I'm very, very tired of people who trash a game like this for a few reasons: 1.) they focus too much on graphics, 2.) they compare it to similar games which have a different focus, and 3.) they show no reverence for the people who paved the way for one of the best genres in the business. I ...

PSP Grand Theft Auto- Liberty City Stories

4 stars (Must-have fun for the PSP) - Finally, GTA is here for the PSP. If you are still deciding whether to get this or not, I say go for it. While GTA: LCS is not the "killer app" that GTA 3 was for the PS2, it's nonetheless tons of fun and endless excitment, coupled with lots of handheld violence and one-person mayhem. There's no doubt that this is simply the best PSP game so far, and it takes full advantage of the PSP's processing and graphic powers. The graphics is fantastic on the PSP, and the framerate for the most part excellent. A couple times you'll notice some choppiness, but otherwise it's just like on the good ol' PS2. The controls are mostly good, except this game inherits the maddening aiming scheme from GTA 3, so when you are in the middle of a Godfather-like shootout, you'll wish for better aiming controls. But that's just a minor complaint. What stopped me from rating this 5 stars -- my inclination is to give it an overall rating of 4.5 stars (90%) -- is the level design is just too similar to GTA 3. You are back in Liberty City, with pretty much the same layouts. Neighborhood names have changed, but otherwise the environment and the characters look (and sound) exactly the same. The gameplay is also pretty much the same, which is great but at the same time a little, shall we say, hackneyed. Still, this is a must-have title for any PSP gamers. 5 stars (Can someone please answer my question?) - I have a PSP and I want to get this game really badly. But I read in previous reviews for this game that the system software has to be at least 2.0 or higher to play this game. The system software on my PSP is 1.50! So my question is, can I upgrade my PSP by using the GTA umd? 5 stars (Liberty City Stories) - A mini crime opera, complete with pint-size bottles of blood, micro-chipped caches of street-smart lingo, fun-size dollops of violence and doggie-bag portability. A veritable miracle of compression, perhaps the best complement to LCS is that ...

5 stars (nice acorrding to the shows showing it.) - the ratchet and clank games may be for teens but im 11 so... who cares i have all 3 and beat all of them im a (genuis)but ever since this one came out, eyes came to mind!! i had to get this game but i dont have it yet ever since i heard about this game and the other 2 jak x and sly 3 i studied all of them and made sure that when i get them they will be great as i saw them on tv (nice)and good for my awesome gaming skills but even if i dont have the game i can still picture it in my head with me playing it, i give it a 4 out of 5. 5 stars (4 is more) - i have all four ratchet and clank games and i have beaten three of them including this one there all fun but i couldnt beat the first one. 4 stars (its a preaty dang good game) - i only played this game for an hour and a half but i got all the way to the third world. however i am a fanatic about this sort of game so in a way i am suprised that i didnt get further. the wepons are very good, i was very impressed by the dual vipers. most of the time i dont like gladiator sort of games but this one was made so superbly well u have to be insane not to like it. the two bots that u get, "Sarge" and "Green" if i remember corectly, are absolutly hilarios. sarge is the traditional sargent, hard core and straight to the point. green is just like a new recrute, he still has nightmares about what happened to there last owner. i will stop telling u the plotline now so that u an go out and get it for ur self and figure it out. its a great game, have fun dying. ...

Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix

4 stars (Dance Dance Revolution: More addictive than Pac-man) - I just bought this game Yesterday evening after yearning for this for about 6 months. Better than what I percieved it to be like in other people's reviews. The story mode is pretty fun your first way through it on Easy mode and The story is pretty cool except some of it makes no sense, like there is a part when mario is jumping on a flower and some how it magically blooms and bounces mario up on top of a mountain and later in the story Mario has to go back up there and he has to jump on a flag to some how magically appear there when he could of just hopped on the friggin flower. Well anyways this game comes in a box bigger than the one the gamecube comes in so that might scare you from purchasing it in a store because you may think you have to buy a Gamecube with it but you really don't. The box is so big because the Dance Pad is fairly large. When I went to go buy this at Wal*mart the clerks thought it was a gamecube and were wondering why it was so light. LOL! The songs on this game kicks ass. There is a huge bundle of remixed mario songs, some dance songs from 3rd party groups, and atleaste one from other Nintendo games.(Original Donkey Kong Theme Remix) The "Work Out Mode" if you heard about it isn't really a mini-game were you work out. it just changes the option of your weight and tells you how much colories you've burnt throughout your plays through this game. I think the Dance pad is kind of cheap. I worry that I might break it when I wear shoes so I always wear socks or go barefoot while playing, the bottom is white and some how dirt gets attracted to it, the plasticy material that covers the top of the pad wrinkles up if you drag it and sometimes you will move out of place on the mat while your playing and really screw up. Other than those few problems I'm satisfied with my $53.00 purchase of this game and I've lost about 5 lbs so far playing it non-stop (almost). 4 stars (Fun For The Whole...

Hallmark Card Studio Deluxe 2006

5 stars (great support) - I received this program right before Halloween. I was struggling with the program at first. I called tech support and they walked me through using the software. They were patient and helpful I am now making cards like a pro. Go Creative Home!! 3 stars (ITS ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES ARE EQUAL!) - The main positive attributes of this 2006 Deluxe edition of "Hallmark Card Studio" include the possession of improved graphical user interface, which is very easy to understand and master. Any new user of this software will feel at home within few hours of tinkering around it. The design tools have received some facelifts, and their respective versatility gained as a result. The same applies to their positions. Another thing going for this software package is its reasonable retail price tag, which very much made it a great bargain: relative to the job it does. As per negative attributes, most of the useful tools in this software are far from being as flexible as most users would want them to be. This is often the downside of most template-oriented graphics suites, which makes your having complete control of your design almost impossible. One other minus here is the poor printing options that you will find in this " Hallmark Card Studio Deluxe 2006 ". In fact, the inclusion of these sort of scanty/stingy printing options in a design tool is almost unpardonable. Nothing will ever compensate designers for it! The last but not the least, is the poor service that you are bound to receive from Hallmark's Customer Support Department, if you ever need to iron-out any issue with them. They are simply careless, and very far from being friendly. And, to worsen the whole thing, the information which you will obtain from their website, (regarding this software), is less than satisfactory. I don't know if they ever thought of customer support when they produced this software. This is quite unfortunate for an application software, which has been around for some...

GBA Bratz- Rock Angelz with FREE Cloe GBA Carry Case

5 stars (Bratz rule!) - I love Bratz! They are definitely the coolest new toy out today! Barbie's day is over, because the Bratz are here. And now they are here in this excellent new game for Nintendo's state-of-the-art Gameboy Advance system. I bought it the day it came out and haven't stopped playing it yet. I haven't even used the bathroom or taken a shower since I got it. 5 stars (Best PS2 Game Ever!) - Bratz Rock Angels is so awesome! You get to pick out fashions while still doing something adventorous. You get to go around the world and try to make the best magazine on the market, better than your rival, Burdine's, magazine. The only thing bad about this game was that it ended really soon! I hope they come out with a new one! 5 stars (Awsome Game) - This game is totaly awsome! You can play tons of mini games. You can see change your outfit. You can move furniture around and also buy new fashoins, acsessories, and hair styles. But watch out for Kristee and Kaceey and mean Burnide. You will go to London and Paris. You can play any charcter you want when your done with all the work.Plus I'll give you a hint. The pink pumps are in the fashion change on the pants thing. And remeber Burnide's office is onthe 4th floor. And read the words that the charcters say.Or you won't know what to do.Sometimes the charcters give you hints and clues with what your about to do. ...

Gamecube - Lego Star Wars

4 stars (A good GameCube port of a surprisingly-fun game) - This GameCube version of Lego Star Wars was released a full six months after the PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions of the game, an odd decision considering the frequently-assumed target audiences of the different consoles. Even so, this delayed port is nevertheless a very solid one, and gamers who have Cubes can pick this one up knowing it looks and plays just as well on this console as it does on the others. Lego Star Wars is a game that is forgiving enough that children will enjoy it (i.e. a character who gets "killed" is simply resurrected nearby). At the same time, also has a few challenges that will give adults a share of fun. The game features a VERY large number of unlockables and extras that can only be completed by collecting certain items and collecting large enough numbers of the game's currency (known as bits). Some of the levels are not terribly difficult to beat - but can be challenging to beat with sufficient numbers of bits, some of which are lost when a character dies. Of note, Lego Star Wars also has an easy-to-use cooperative feature, which is a great deal of fun regardless of the age of the people you are playing with. The presentation of this game is outstanding. The graphics are beautiful and glossy and portray the "Lego" and the "Star Wars" both wonderfully. The cutscenes are funny and capture well the storyline of the first three episodes even though there is no voicework to speak of. John Williams soundtrack is here and the game even has the appropriate tracks for each level. Hearing that trademark "Darth Maul" anthem during the duel with the Sith is a real treat. There are only a few drawbacks to the game. One, it's a bit on the short side - an adult could probably plow through the entire campaign in 6-8 hours. That being said, each level has hidden items and unlockables that are only accessible after you've beaten that level in the regular story mode, so there is a...

Adobe Premiere Elements 2 0 Video Editing DVD

5 stars (This product is a must-buy offer for video editing) - I've used this product for video editing of my recent errand to Nanital. I gave stunning results and I was amazed with its ease of usability. It also includes a very comprehensive help. In summary it is another accomplishment for ADOBE. 4 stars (Premiere Elements 2.0 is a Qualified Success!) - Premiere Elements 2.0 is pretty good and easy to use. While Pinnacle Studio 9 is a bit easier to use, Premiere 2.0 does seem much more reliable that Studio. The good is that you can output both Windows and Mac in addition to DVD format video, whereas with the Apple packages, such as iMovie or even Final Cut Express you're limited to Quicktime and non-Windows formats. Editing was relatively easy, yet still has a small learning curve; the should scale the items on the screen a bit better but if you have good eyes (and I don't!) you can find just about everything at your finger tips. About the only complaint I have is that the output quality is not as good as Final Cut Express. For some reason the resulting DVD image I created was less resolution than the original/source video which was a VOB file of an old 8mm Wedding film. Not sure why that happened but it did. Also the helptext gets an average rating from me. While some information is right there, easy to get at, other stuff isn't in the help or is worded a bit too obscure. Titling is about the only thing that Pinnacle does better. Premiere's is okay, but many of the checkboxes seem to work backwards. For example the "Start off Screen" for a rolling title caused the title to start on screen and roll off screen, whereas Start On Screen had the opposite affect. So trial and error comes into play. All in all, if you're a Windows User, I would recommend it, if you're a Mac user (I use both) I would use iMovie which normally comes with your Mac or iLife package. 5 stars (Good to buy as single, best with Photoshop Elements combination) - Thanks to Adobe for giving ...

SuSE Linux 10 0 DVD

3 stars (SuSe and Digital Video Editing) - I'll be happy to be proven wrong by 10.0, but one area where 9.3 was very weak was Digital Video (DV) editing. There are and abundance of robust and stable commercial packages available for Windows for around $100. My favorite is Pure Motion's Edit Studio. The Suse trial version of MainActor crashed frequently and I could not get Broadcast 2000 to run at all other than in DV capture mode. Kino worked, but is low on features and not intuitive. Cinelerra looks powerful, but its specs demand high-powered hardware, and it scared me off. I understand that there are licensing issues with DRM, codecs etc, but DV has now become a mainstream activity on home PCs. I could easily migrate to Suse Linux, but I have to keep a Windows box around to edit DV and create DVDs. For out-of-the-box DV editing, Win boxes are way ahead on points - don't even consider Linux if you do DV exclusively. On the other hand, the KB III burning software distributed with Suse works flawlessly, and I was able to get freeware MPEG-II conversions running. The quality of the encodings when viewed with Xine was amazing. One very interesting DV tool in Linux is the Blender 3D graphics program, which includes many video post-processing features, and allows you to add special effects, graphical overlays, and animated titles. [However, Blender also runs fine on Win PCs.] If you don't mind hunting down and installing packages to mess around with, it is worth considering Linux for post-processing. Firewire support worked flawlessly up to a point, but I had to find packages to support DV capture from my Sony camcorder. I also had problems getting Suse to recognize and mount a large-capacity LaCie firewire drive, partitioned into NTFS and Fat-32 partitions. One other issue is file formats. I work with commercial vector graphics packages such as Adobe Illustrator and would like to see more robust import features on the Open Source side. I realize that Ado...

Microsoft Plus- SuperPack for Windows XP

4 stars (A GOOD FACE-LIFT FOR ANY VERSION OF WINDOWS XP) - Silence everybody!!! Who says that software don't need plastic surgery? Well, think again! Microsoft has had a long history of tailoring cosmetic-surgery-kits for most of her software. It does not matter whether they called it 'Service Packs', 'Security Updates', 'Plus!' or whatever. The deal is always the same; and for the same purpose: improvement! And with this "Microsoft Plus! SuperPack for Windows XP", the trend continues. It doesn't matter if you are running the Home Edition or the Professional Edition of Windows XP; this 'Plus! SuperPack' will certainly inject a new life into the operating system. But for die-hard professionals, whose PCs are strictly used for conventional office work, this XP-addition is really unnecessary. However, the same cannot be said of those who are into digital media. They will love it. SuperPack is surely the ultimate companion of Windows XP, if you are an ardent lover of things like MP3, digital photography, digital arts, digital audio, 3-D Gamining, 3-D Graphics, animation, and general multimedia. It virtually conjures every digital fantasy, which you have ever nursed. And the exuberance will not end there! This software also comes with a long list of assorted screen savers, which are not originally found in any version of Windows XP. But note that the fact that your computer meets the system requirements of Windows XP does not mean that it will meet those of this SuperPack. This additional XP companion needs at least 1GHz of raw processing power and 512MB of RAM to deliver plausible performance. Gambling on any PC with lesser statistics may bring you disappointment. "Microsoft Plus! SuperPack for Windows XP" is clearly an additional entertainment kit, so the more memory and the more processing power that your computer throws at it, the happier and more diligent it becomes. This logic also holds true, if your computer's graphics card has a better-than-average 3-D accelerat...

THUG- American Wasteland

3 stars (Deja Vu) - Pros- The free roaming is quite good, The bert slide is a fun addition, Slightly improved graphics, Classic Mode, (If you've played the other 6 (like me), you're gonna buy it simply because it's more challenges to do) Cons- No edit tricks option in story mode, NO EDIT TRICKS OPTION IN STORY MODE, A bit same old, The embarrassingly bad Jackass- style humour, Still no replays, Having to go to shops to get stat challenges, Long bland corridors connecting the areas slightly diminishes the "whole city with no loading times" effect, Easier than previous games on Sick Mode, oh yeah and NO EDIT TRICKS OPTION IN STORY MODE- what a ridiculous oversight 4 stars (Pretty Good) - Even though you can tell the makers of this game rushed to get it out on time, without checking all the bugs. I have to say that i really enjoyed this game. I have only rented it, but it was sooo fun. I love these kind of games though, the kind that make you think real fast on what you should do next. If you've liked the THUG series i know for a fact that you will enjoy this. I like the new NO LOADING SCREENS thing too, it's alot more fun. THUG 2 blowed, but this game makes up for it! 3 stars (An OK game, but way too many defects) - I'm glad on renting this game for money's sake. It isn't worth past 35 bucks. This game is fun, but with way too many things messed up. These things include the diffculty, in which they expect you to pull off a 10,000 point combo as the 2nd or 3rd mission. This is especially difficult to those who are new to this. Also this is a big downgrade from THUG and THUG2 in graphics, and story. The Create a Modes are figgin' sweet, more if you have an EyeToy to put your self in the game. So unless your a hard-core Tony Hawk fan, rent it first. ...

Quake 4- Special Edition

4 stars (Old school shoot-em-up fun) - Well this is my first real taste of Quake. I played the original shareware Quake 1 back in the day and I also owned Quake 3 Arena for Dreamcast. Now I know Quake 3 was insanely popular but since I didn't own the keyboard attachment, the game was frustrating as heck. Now with Quake 4 here, I have come to realize why everybody loves the Quake series so much. For starters, the game's graphics are fantastic. Truley some of the best out there and they are improved over Doom 3's as well. The sounds are great too although the machine gun's sound will really start to irritate you especially in multiplayer. As for the singleplayer campaign, its pretty decent. Basically its an old school style of gameplay where you blast the living heck out of anything that walks. My complaint with the single player is that its over way to quickly. The vehicle levels are over before you know it and the story isn't the best either. But the shooting is well done and since thats what you're doing most of the time its fun to play. Now the multiplayer portion of the game isn't really my favorite style for online FPS games. Its basically a combination of Quake 2 and 3's maps with much improved graphics. Most of the people online are seasoned vets and since I am a noob when it comes to this games multiplayer, I usually end up dead more often than alive. So if you loved the other Quake games online, then you will surely enjoy this one too. If your like me and enjoy games like Day of Defeat, Call of Duty, Ghost Recon, or the Battlefield games, then you won't probably care too much for Quake 4's online aspects unless you put in a great amount of practice. Normally I wouldn't have spent more money on the special edition version of the game just to have it on dvd as opposed to multiple cds, but I had a giftcard and since I never played Quake 2, I bought it. Although I have only played a few levels of Quake 2, it is a very fun game and I'm sure the included expa...

Microsoft Office Standard Edition 2003

4 stars ( Microsoft Office Standard Edition 2003 ) - The price was the best I could find. Ordering was hassle free and delivery was fast. 5 stars (Comprehensively Useful) - There is no other product which compares to the Microsoft Office suite. "Microsoft Office Standard Edition" is the place to get started. And it is the place you'll probably stay. You do need Word and Excel, and occasionally, PowerPoint. Learn basic word processing and spreadsheet usage. Shine in meetings with PowerPoint. Do you need to upgrade from XP? Not likely. There are no new features I found impressive after having the XP version for years. It lacks Access, but most people don't need the database strength of it, and will survive nicely with just Excel. For e-mailing documents and files to coworkers, you can be confident they'll easily open Office files. There is a good chance they use it themselves. Outlook is one of those highly underrated, but enormously useful applications to help you organize your contacts, schedule and tasks easily. You can use it as an e-mail reader as well, though that feature has been vulnerable to viruses. Word is a huge program which can do far more than you'll need, but it will allow you versatility and simplicity that WordPerfect has yet to pull off. Excel is a basic spreadsheet with incredible math functionality. I don't need most of the math tools, other than minor budgets and such. I find it handy for tracking my poetry submissions; I can see which magazine I sent which piece to when, and how and when they replied. PowerPoint makes those cool slideshows with the text that can be animated on the screen. With the templates, you can look good without requiring a graphic design degree. I fully recommend "Microsoft Office Standard Edition." It is the business and home office standard. You need it, it is easy to learn, and the price is right.
