The Trees of Pride

Quote, "Squire Vane was an elderly schoolboy of English education and Irish extraction. His English education, at one of the great public schools, had preserved his intellect perfectly and permanently at the stage of boyhood. But his Irish extraction subconsciously upset in him the proper solemnity of an old boy, and sometimes gave him back the brighter outlook of a naughty boy...

Life-Span Human Development

4 stars ( Life-Span Human Development ) - I found the layout of this book very interesting in that it took a portion of the life-span and brought you from infancy to old age. In this way, the natural progression of life could be viewed for each topic. The alternative would be to start with infancy, then go to childhood, adolescence, etc. With the approach of this book, I found tracking each topie, e.g., "Perception," more interesting. 3 stars (Tired Read) - Very dry read. Complicated and confusing order of addressing topics. Reading for my developmental psych class felt like a chore with this book. 2 stars (Choppy, and incredibly dry) - I used this book with a human development course at my university, and it was less than adequate for the job. The book is incredibly bland, and while it goes through the life span in order, it seems to jump around from different people's theories too much. Better if all of Piaget's ideas were presented together for a certain topic, etc.. On top of that, I believe that the method of citing the sources, while it works for research papers, seemed out of place in this setting. Numbered footnotes would have worked better. The method of citation used made it seem choppy, as all of a sudden you'd see a last name and a year in the middle of the text. This could be done more effectively, because the current method definitely broke up the text significantly. Hopefully, some of these changes will be implemented in a future edition. ...

Barbie Horse Adventures- Mystery Ride

4 stars (Could be better) - This game could be better.when i got it for Christmas i played it with my step sister and cousin, and i'll say we finished it in about 20 to 30 minutes.THE WHOLE GAME!!!its fun,but isnt very long, thats why i gave it 4 stars. 3 stars (Blah) - For $20 I thought this would be something a bit more. The "adventure" is a bit boring and doesn't change much each time you play it. The navigation is quite poor compared to other games. Plus there's quite a bit of stutter on some of the vocals (I run a fairly fast machine with 768MB of RAM so I know it's not that). All in all, three stars may be a bit much, but my daughter likes it and I guess that's all that counts. 4 stars (Great For Younger Girls) - For young girls (6-10) just starting with an interest in "Mystery" games, this would be fun and entertaining. Small challenges - not too difficult, but skill-building for younger - make this interesting, but are too easy for more advanced game players. The graphics are okay, even though a bit stiff and cartoonish. Horse-loving girls will enjoy "selecting" their mount (including coat and mane color) and the opportunity to groom, feed and ride. You also get to choose Barbie's outfit and the style/color of your saddle and bridle. My main criticism is that the game time was too short, but for beginners or younger children, this could actually be a plus. ...

Devil-s Bride

5 stars (In love with Devil's Bride) - I picked up this book at a garage sale but I immediatly fell in love with it. The characters were witty and fun. The plot was strong and I couldn't put the book down. Honoria and Devil were perfectly matched and it was always great to see them interact, with each other as well as the other characters in the book. The only bad thing I have to say about the book was the murderer was rather obvious to me from the beggining but the book was still great fun to read. I would recoomend it to anyone and everyone! 5 stars (The first and THE best of the Bar Cynster novels) - What a great way to start the Cynster series! I absolutely loved this book and couldn't put it down. This is a great introduction to the Cynster family, especially those disgustingly handsome and sexy Bar Cynster cousins. As soon as I finished reading this, I bought the other 5 Cynster novels because I wanted to know what happened with the rest of the Bar Cynster. Devil and Honoria are my favorite Cynster couple. Devil is just to die for and Honoria is the perfect match for him. He is rakishly handsome and so arrogantly sexy. He is strong, devoted to his family and, of course, he is the Duke of St Ives, the leader of the notorious Bar Cynster and the most eligible bachelor in the ton. As for Honoria, she is the strongest and most interesting of the Bar Cynster wives - not to mention the most stylish and sophisticated. The part in the book where someone mentions that she was born and bred to lead the ton and take on the role of the family matriarch couldn't be more true. When reading the succeeding books, I couldn't help but measure up the other heroines against Honoria, and couldn't imagine any of them in the Duchess' role. I love the interaction between those two, and the way they slug it out during their heated exchanges is very entertaining. It is always delightful to read about them in the other Cynster books, in fact, I'm always looking forward to th...

Saddle Up- Time To Ride

4 stars (I Love Horses) - I've been looking at this game for some time and finally bought it. I'm not sorry. I really like the game. I found that my horses have different abilities like some would rather not jump and some are better at the cross country. The area around the farm that you are aloud to ride in is fairly small but then you also have the four coarses you can practice on as well. There is also alittle interactiveness with some characters in the game that makes it a little bit more interesting. I find that having 5 horses to care for is quite difficult and can get a little borring. I can spend 30 minutes just in cleaning stalls and careing for the horses, but if you don't go to bed (in the game) you don't have to clean the stalls all the time, but if you want to compete in competetions then you need to go to bed to make the time pass. (a rock and a hard place). My horses seem to be getting sick frequetly and I'm not sure why at this piont. This is upsetting because you cannot ride when the horse is sick. Over all this game has been quite fun. I don't have a horse and probably wont beable to get one so this is fitting the bill for the moment. I recommend this game to horse lovers. 4 stars (Pretty good) - good game, but some people are saying in their reviews that they cant pick out the hooves. What do you do in real life, class?YOU GO UP AND DOWN!!SAME IN THE GAME!!!It gets anoyying though, because if you dont take care of a horse,it gets sick. The wheel thing is hard,my friend who i loaned it to cant even get past it!!!Pretty good game, though. 5 stars (Love this game) - I love this game soooooo much when i first got this game it was hard but then it got really fun hope they come out with more. ...

101 Arena Exercises - A Ringside Guide for Horse - Rider

2 stars (In an enlightened age, Cherry is still old school) - Cherry Hill has come up with some neat little exercise books to offer you training ideas. But she has some outdated ideas on horse training. Compare the advice you get in her book "The Formative Years" with some of the more enlightened trainers published in the last 20 years. 5 stars (A valuable addition to your equestrian library.) - The number of excellent reviews for this book reflect the application to riders of all levels and disciplines. The most valuable aspect of this book is that it encourages the rider to formulate a plan for their schooling sessions and make a conscious decision not to do the same thing day in day out - something we are all guilty of on occasion. Make your schooling sessions more fun for you and your horse with this informative guide. 5 stars (good for both disciplines) - We love this book! Cherry Hill is such a good author, she explains things in such a way that they are understandable and useful, not just a concept that you might not be able to use. This book will give you and your horse a chance to practice different exercises and break out of the old walk-trot-canter-one-way-around the ring rut. I think this has helped myself and our two horses greatly in our training process. ...

Riding Academy- Jump - Ride

5 stars (If Horse Back Riding is your thing...) - then, this is the game for you. You can ride in all different locations around the world - which is fun. For example, in Holland you go past windmills, and in Switzerland you ride past mountain top huts. Since the controls are uncomplicated, you can enjoy the game right away. In order to win races, you need to be strategic with the horse you choose for the track and conditions. Also, my daughter and I race against each other, which is why I have to practice. I am having fun with this and I am the grown up in the family! Even better, she's only 8 and she's doing just fine with it. She's even better at it than me! ...

More Proficient Motorcycling - Mastering the Ride

4 stars (More Proficient Motorcycling : Mastering the Ride) - Excellent content. The information is priceless but it would be a big plus if the publisher could find a way to bind the book to help prevent it from falling apart while you read it. I had the same problem with the first book "Proficient Motorcycling: The Ultimate Guide to Riding Well". 5 stars (More for riders...less for beginners) - The 1st Hough book Proficient Motorcycling is a very complete overview of the motorcycle, its mechanics and basic safety. That book serves starting riders very well. I read "More" proficient motorcycling soon after I finished the first book and when I had less than 200 miles under my belt. At that point in time I found that I was not ready for the 2nd book. I couldn't make sense of the examples. The book is much more a discussion with riders than a training course for beginners. This spring after beginning to commute to work on the motorcycle and having many more hours of cycle time I re-read the book in prerparation to return to the road. With more experience the book was much more useful. Where the first book told the reader what to do, "More" gives examples, choices and options for the rider to consider. The book is extremely thought provoking. It contains many excellent examples including a section that describes how you can lay out your own training course (assuming you have the tarmac to do it)and much helpful advice on cornering. If you are just starting out read the first book before this you read this one. You'll need the grounding. If you are an experienced rider I would suggest reading this book every year as you gear up for the riding season (unless of course you are lucky enough to live where its always riding season, then I'd make it a New Year's resolution). Any way you slice it its another excellent book from Mr. Hough. 5 stars (The perfect complement to the first book) - In a few words, after reading the first one -Proficient Motorcycling- one cannot expec...
