Chicken Soup for the Military Wife-s Soul - Stories to Touch the Heart and Rekindle the Spirit Chic

4 stars (Second-hand Review) - I did not read this myself, but I sent it to my friend who's husband (my best friend of about 12 years) is in Iraq. She said it gave her a good cry and made her feel a better, which the latter part is what I was going for. So from her review to me, I would recommend it. 4 stars (Can't Wait for More.) - Chicken Soup for the Soul books just get better and better. I'm waiting for my next Military Wife's edition and am hoping for a Military Children's edition as well. I gave this 4 stars only because I save 5 for those that excede my expectations. 5 stars (The most AMAZING and ESSENTIAL book for any Military Spouse) - I have read many of the Chicken Soup books, but being a military spouse this is the one that really touched my heart the most! Because it allows you to know their are other spouses out there who feel the same pain of deployment, and problems that being a military family will bring. ...

Captivating- A Guided Journal - Unveiling the Mystery of a Woman-s Soul

3 stars (Not quite captivating...) - I love the book by the Eldredges entitled CAPTIVATING, but I was a little disappointed in the companion journal. A lot of space is taken up by quoting paragraphs from the book and the questions are sometimes redundant. I also found that it takes a little too long to complete a chapter of the journal. I'm anxious to get back to the book and maybe hold off on the journal for a later time. ...

Captivating - Unveiling the Mystery of a Woman-s Soul

4 stars (Understanding and Healing a Woman's Soul.) - If your a man and just can't seem to figure out woman, then this book is not necessarily for you. I would encourage you to read John Eldredge's, the co-authors other book, "Wild at Heart". It touches on everything in this book, and will also help you understand yourself better as a man, which in turn will help you come to a better understanding of what makes woman tick. If you are a male that is into counseling woman then I would recommend this book to you. From my interaction with woman over the years, I can see this book bringing healing to many a woman's life, as long as they give the book a chance and are honest with themselves. I do see some anger in some of the other reviews, but I really think these reviewers are just missing the point. As a man I do find the type of woman that the author tries to lead all woman to become, to be the only ones that I truly find Captivating. And no matter what some people would say, as a woman you are entitled to be Captivating. So buy the book and enjoy becoming all that you can be. 5 stars (Every man and women on earth should read this and Wild @) - Hello!! Jesus came and died for our sins. We have been released from the curse of sin and death, this includes the curse issued in the Garden. I believe that this book should be read in conjunction with Wild at Heart for we can not understand our roles as men and women unless we understand each other. John has taken on an incredible task - to understand a woman's heart. He did the only thing that he could do, he asked his wife to help. They have taken modern culture and showed us the desires reflected in unsaved and saved humanity. Then they showed us how to meet those desires - to pursue a romantic relationship with God. In order to give ourselves permission for this romance, they had to first show us that God needs us - no one else on earth can fulfill the purpose that God created us for. Then they showed us th...

Soul at Work- Spiritual Leadership in Organizations

5 stars (Spiritually-Grounded AND Successful) - In five to ten years time, I predict we will see a spurt of entrepreneurialism directly traceable to Margaret Benefiel's Soul at Work. Much writing about spirituality and the work place is little more than enthusiastic commentary. This book is much more. In its breadth of real world stories ranging from U2 to Reell Precision Manufacturing to Mercy Medical, Soul at Work tells the experiences of leaders in their own voices. These are not portraits of saints - of leaders who made decisions in extraordinary circumstances. These are ordinary people who did make the commitment to create an environment where they and their colleagues could bring their whole selves to work. Recognizing the array of spiritualities that leaders (and readers) bring, Benefiel defines soul as "the human spirit, fully engaged." Importantly, she has collected stories from a diversity of wisdom traditions. The book is divided into two sections, first hearing from the leaders themselves and then moving on to examining their organizations. The author concludes with a set of lessons/guides that are traced back to their origins in the stories presented. She helpfully demonstrates what people any place in an organization - and across a wide diversity of organizations - can do. What I found most exciting was that some readers who find their current circumstances inhospitable to bottom lines other than the financial may well be spurred to create new, more spiritually-grounded organizations that are also designed to be successful in the marketplace. Buy a copy for yourself - then buy another to share with colleagues. You'll want to keep your own handy. But as you read it, you'll want to be able to talk about it with people you know seek a fuller engagement of soul at work. 4 stars (Fully engaged) - On the first page of the Introduction (page 9 in the book) I got hooked when Margaret defined spirituality as "the human spirit, fully engaged." That drew m...

Journey Of Souls

5 stars (Really Thought Provoking....) - The material is all gleened from hypnosis clients - no proof. However it resonated with me as the most logical of realities. -In my world it gave me a feeling of a paradigm shift. -- I now better understand the odd pairings of children and parents, the compulsions and the feelings of "out of sync" in a whole new light. I would highly reccommend it to people interested in the "whys" of life and the "where do we go from here". 5 stars (Revealing!) - The best book I've ever read regarding reincarnation, past lives or where we go between lives. This is my favorite "gift" to give to anyone. Dr. Newton shares his case studies with us in a very understandable format that makes the reader not want to put the book down. 5 stars (A life-changer) - A life is transient--we're born, we live, we die--but the soul goes on, born into a new body, gathering experiences lifetime after lifetime. These accumulated life experiences influence the current, active lifetime on a subconscious level, and some traumatic experiences leave troubling footprints on one's current life. Dr.Newton (Ph.D.)shows through case histories of patients who have been "regressed" (scientific and verifiable), that a contemporary stumbling block can resolved by identifying the trauma that created it. For example, a mystifying pain in this lifetime can be a "soul memory" of an injury in a past life; or a current pathological fear of water is from a "soul memory" of drowning in a past life. Then there are the souls who are so deeply connected that they have share many lifetimes as siblings, and close friends, and spouses. What was most fascinating to me was the "memory" of what happens between lives, when we return to our "soul groups," review our lives, see what lessons we have learned and which ones we have to try again. In short, life is school for the soul. Is there matriculation? Yes, in a sense there is in that we learn and move on. Are there trips to the principals ...

Soul Searching- The Religious And Spiritual Lives Of American Teenagers

5 stars (A Non-Christian Nation) - Christian Smith and Melinda Denton have produced a wonderful analysis of the religious condition of teenagers (ages 13-17) in the USA. They collected survey data on 3290 teenagers and then followed up with more extended interviews of 267 of those surveyed. The initial survey gave an over all picture of the religious character of these teenagers including their affiliations, participation, beliefs and experiences. The interviews provided an in-depth exposure of what these teens really believe. As it turns out, the seeming wide-spread acceptance of religious life by teens (only 16% were "not religious") is largely to a vague, self-defined religion which the authors defined as: Moralistic Therapeutic Deism. The teens believed in a generally disinterested divine power who supervised a system to provide personal peace and prosperity for nice people, or perhaps to help them them be nice. They adhered to a religion that is helpful, but not entirely necessary. While there were those who could be described as believers in Christianity as defined by the Bible, and also those who denied any religion, the clear majority favored MTD. The book is a "must read" for any who would like to better understand the status of the spiritual interests of youths. It also is valuable for all who would generally understand American culture. While the authors make no such claim, it is likely that the youths' view of religion is likely the common view of our age. At the least, it surely will be the increasingly dominant religion as these youths enter adult life. For parents and youth workers who are interested in true spiritual life for their children, it shows the arena in which their own youths reside. It should stimulate good thinking and discussion of how properly to intervene in what turns out to be a huge spiritual void in the lives of professing spiritual/religious youths. This is an excellent book. 5 stars (The Best Resource Available T...

Wild at Heart Field Manual- A Personal Guide to Discover the Secret of Your Masculine Soul

4 stars (Finally, An Answer) - The book is expansive, deep and yet fairly easy to read. In straightfoward terms the author shares his observations about men and women. He carefully builds his case that God made man and woman to reflect the LORD's own masculinity and feminity. Each has a role to play in shaping and developing the world; when sin entered these roles were corrupted and the Enemy has worked hard to keep us in the dark about what it means to be masculine. John Eldredge takes time to explore the things that motivate men and how many of us avoid being the man God made preferring to pretend to be something we are not. He shows how men were made for God's glory and how they can recover what was lost in the Fall. 5 stars (Not Just a Study Guide...) - The Field Manual is not just one more study guide to grind out some more revenue from a popular book. It is a structured journey deep into the heart that goes far beyond the original book. God will change the man who slowly, humbly, prayerfully works through this book. Profound and challenging for both individual and group study. 5 stars (Christianity Today's online article) - Check out the article at on Eldredge: (...) Yes, he is a radical, but in his defence - so was Jesus. It's been a while since I've read Wild at Heart (WaH), but I recall it being refreshing to my faith, just as Eldredge in person has been refreshing to me. I've had the privilege of listening to him speak a few times. I've read all his books (haven't seen the videos) and I get them confused, but what I've really taken away from the man is his vision of the way church should be, that is a band of brothers. Granted, he doesn't delve into any 'bands of sisters.' Probably only because that would be outside the scope of this book? Anyways, Jesus exemplified intimacy through discipleship with three men and he also kept a group of buddies known as "The Twelve." And from that he left a legacy. I wonder, how is Sunday morning church li...

Wild at Heart- Discovering the Secret of a Man-s Soul

5 stars (Every man should read this book!) - Frankly, I do not understand how any male Christian could give this book anything less than 5 stars. Outside of the Bible, no book has impacted my life in the way this one has. From the first few pages on I was hooked because this book was speaking to something that I knew in my heart was true. John Eldredge has a deep desire for men to recapture a Godly, masculine identity that is lacking so much in our culture today. This goes way beyond just being a nice guy. He challenges men to capture the danger and risks that come from a deeper relationship with God. The author backs up these ideas with solid scriptural teaching and the simple fact that the truthes expressed in these pages strike a nerve at the very center of your heart. This book is a must read if you are a man and especially if you have had the feeling that there is something missing with the our current Christian culture's attitude toward true masculinity. 5 stars (Wild at Heart: Discovering the Secret of a Man's Soul) - At age 64, I have read many books, novels, autobiographies, et. al., but I have never read a book written in TRUTH and LOVE like this book is. EVERY man should read it, and then, should re-read it with his wife...and maybe even his daughters and sons....this is the most dead-on, God-filled book, save the Holy Bible, I have ever read!!!!!!! John Elredge should get a Pulitzer Prize for this book. It is his heart, his soul, his Lord! If there were 10 stars, I'd go a 10!!!!!! Blessings! Ken Skeen 5 stars (Wild at Heart-A Must Read for every Baby Boomer Guy) - At the urging od 3 guy friends I ordered Wild at Heart and I must say I could not put it downn. I'm a 52 year old "successful" Baby Boomer" who couldn't figure out why I was unsettled with my life. John Elderedge's Wild at Heart explains what we who grew up in the 50's and 60's missed out on-a sense of true masculinity conferred by our fathers. Prior to the 60's dads and sons were at "murde...

Soulful Sex Erotic Tales Of Fantasy And Romance

5 stars (From one prude to another...) - Having grown up with way too many inhibitions to bore the readers with, the whole concept of Erotic Literature, was as shocking as it was enticing. On any ordinary day, I would not have dreamed of reading such volatile prose but I must say that having had it recommended my an honorable source, this collection of short erotic stories was a blast of fresh, invigorating air. Ms. Lawrence manages the perilous and exciting balancing act between deep and insightful characterization and plot with great, passionate sexual writing. The reader is not embarrassed by the sex as much as inspired by it. The noble intent of the writer is subliminal yet prominent. This is not sex for it's own sake, (to rouse the dormant housewife) but sex as the highest form of art and expression. All five stories are engaging and energizing. My personal favorite is "Pints". For anyone who is a sucker for the Vampire lore; reinvented, this is a "must read". 5 stars (Reprint of Review by Kimberly Burton of Love Romances) - Ms. Laurence writes several short, but enticing stories that take the reader on a journey of love with her six wonderfully robust and vibrant couples, each having their own romantic tale to tell. The stories held this reviewer's attention quite easily. They are exciting, fast paced and a delight to read. The love scenes were titillating and full of emotion, causing this reviewer to sit back and sigh with each passionate union of body and soul. Ms. Laurence's characters are so full of life, this reviewer felt as though she could actually reach out and gently stroke the cheeks of each of them and be able to feel the softness of the willful heroines' skin or the roughness of the new growth of whiskers upon the strong hero's face. Each story wove a delicate spell, which left me yearning for more. If you are looking for a book containing true romance, sinfully hot love scenes with out the vulgar words or slang so commonly used today, hero'...

Ladies and Gentlemen- The Bronx Is Burning- 1977- Baseball- Politics- and the Battle for the Soul of

3 stars (not so good) - Mahler writes for a magazine and he doesn't make any accomodation for a longer project. Pretty thin presentation. 4 stars (Ladies and Gentlemen the Bronx is burning) - This is a very entertaining and well researched book about the events in the New York in 1977. 5 stars (A Great Read!) - You do not have to be a New Yorker to like Jonathan Mahler's "Ladies and Gentlemen, the Bronx is Burning." I live in the rural South, and really loved the book. Anyone who loves baseball, history, politics, New York, the late 1970's, or just good writing will thoroughly enjoy this book. My wife and I both loved this book. I am old enough to remember what we in Georgia thought of the Big Apple in that critical year of both bad news and hope. To know how the various story lines actually played out only enhances the fun of knowing what a mess things were in 1977. ...

PS2 Soul Calibur 3

3 stars (Worst AI I have ever seen) - The game is pretty, and it's fun to play with friends, although some of the added gameplay dynamics are frustrating: namely that once you're on the ground, you can expect to get hit 6-7 more times before you can so much as regain your footing, and even then, you're on the defensive for the rest of the match. The biggest problem with this game is that the single player, which you're practically forced to play if you ever want to unlock weapons/characters/armor, etc is awful. The main reason is the computer AI. Enemies vary between being 100% flawless (all of your moves are blocked, if not guard impacted, all of your throws negated, even though there should only be a 50% chance of that if someone's even fast enough to attempt negating it), and being 100% worthless. It punishes you for even trying to fight, because immediately after the enemy blocks your attack, he immediately counters with a lightning fast move before you can block it (even moves that knock an enemy off balance don't protect you from this counter attack). The enemy alternates between sitting completely still and not trying to block anything, to becoming completely impossible to harm at all; there is no in between. Skill is irrelevant, as I can beat computer opponents just as well with the character i've used since soul caliber 1 (which i consider myself quite skilled with) as with a new character who's moves I have no idea to enact (which I admit I am god awful with). This is because any hit you get off the computer is because it allowed you hit it. Tactics, switch moves, throwing off balance, fakeouts, etc do absolutely nothing against the computer. You're as likely to strike the computer with the most comnplicated and flawlessly executed maneuver in the history of fighting games as you are by closing your eyes and mashing the triangle button (try it, it works). Second reason is massive load times. Trying to play through story mode makes you wait 15 ...

The Last Season- A Team In Search of Its Soul

3 stars (Zen, Ego, Fame) - Good book. Subject matter is interesting. Coach Jackson is likeable but his writing is lacking. This was the author's inward look at a season filled with surprises, peaks, and valleys. The irony is that he is returning to coach the Lakers next season and this book will act as the giant elephant in the room that nobody will want to talk about. Outside of the obvious issues: Kobe's ego, lockerroom dissension, etc... This is your typical "a season in" diary of a sports team, with all the ebbs and flows that playing in the NBA provides. Jackson offers few poignant observations about the league that a serious fan doesn't already know or suspect. Still valuable as a worthy document of a popular and polarizing sports franchise. 4 stars (Good Book) - If you like reading about grown men act like a bunch of whiney women this is your book. This book should be call "Phil Jackson my last year of babysitting" 5 stars (The BOLD truth) - First of all this books kicks ass, for any real lakers/shaq fan. What else can I say other than, Phil and Kobe wont get along...again. Kobe is EVIL! ...
