2 stars (Earlier versions are better) - This book includes numerous tear-out exercises and cases. It might be appropriate for a classroom but it is not ideal for prospective entrepreneurs. Earlier versions of this book had good material on writing a business plan and determining appropriate sources of capital and less extraneous fillers. Save yourself a lot of money and buy a more practical book on the subject or the 1995 version if you want the business plan and financing materials. 5 stars (Book condition) - Very quick delivery. Book had some marks, but excellent condition. Would recommend strongly if you want the book right away. 4 stars (Comprehensive "Owners' Manual" for Entrepreneurs) - Like the previous reviewer, I too purchased the 4th Edition of this text (paperback), and was extremely pleased. Before starting my current business, I consulted extensively with this text, and was pleased with its comprehensive, practical nature - covering everything from a personality assessment of one's readiness for self-employment, to exhaustive preparation information for a business plan. The book also extensively covers financing an entrepreneurial venture, comparing both debt and equity (including Venture Capital) methodologies. On a practical note, I also like the fact that all the pages are perforated...there have been several that I have taken out and used hands-on! I cannot comment on the relative worth of this version vs. the newer version, as I only have the 4th edition. ...

5 stars (Concise and Complete) - I'm a medical doctor currently working in indigenous comunities in southern venezuela. I attend to a wide range of medical and non medical problems. I have used the CMDT almost daily since working here. It has proven to be complete and concise, wich is a great feature when you need to pack your stuff and take a boat to the next comunity!. It is not a review, but it will give you the initial ideas to start investigating or treating. So if you're working in a relatively isolated area, where getting seconds opinions is dificult and takes time, doubt no more, this book will be a great help to you. 5 stars (Great Resource for Health Care Professionals. ) - This text gives quick and dirty coverage on an extensive range of topics. I keep it on my desk and use it often to research how illnesses are diagnosed, the signs and symptoms and treatment. 5 stars (CMDT vt Tierney,McPhee and Papadakis) - This is an excellent work which documents nearly 1000 maladies- their essential manifestations, general considerations, prognosis,clinical findings, the differential diagnosis and treatment. The work would be valuable so that the physician does not omit any important elements of the overall treatment plan. Optimal drug doses are cited together with annotated references, a general approach to the patient and common symptomatology. Surgical risk factors are outlined in considerable detail. The acquisition would be an important part of any personal medical library. The authors provide a current rendition with brand new references, up-to-date treatments/methods and medical technology. ...

1 stars (Classical Mechanics is a Foundation) - After using this book(or better trying to use this book) I've observed, after complementing the theory that is just trying to resemble Goldstein obviusly omiting most of the theory and proposing to fill those gaps with little examples. Exercises are poorly described maybe asuming you memorize examples, very few derivations are included most is tenth grade algebra. Then the reviews may be divided again into two categories: - those who loved or hated the book because it conveyed an exclusively classic and/or historical treatment of physics. - those who loved or hated the book because it conveyed a modern treatments of physics. I loved this book because it was written to teach physics through the development of SKILLS; I loved this book because it did so through a CLASSIC TREATMENT of physics. Now I will explain why... 5 stars (Excellent Introduction to the Field of Psychology) - I had this book as a textbook for my intro to psych class. It is a well written text. Unlike most textbooks, it is not dry or boring. This book uses examples for it's concepts, such as Tiger Wood's golf game and Alice in Wonderland. It also has diagrams, definitions, graphs, tables, and mini-experiments to back up and sum up the text. In short, it is set up well for any type of learner. The text covers many areas of psychology, including the history, the brain, sense and perception, consciousness, learning, emotion, and disorders. I would definitely recommend it for a class or an ambitious solo reader. ...

Harrison-s Principles of Internal Medicine 16e Two-Volume Set

4 stars (Excellent reference for medical students) - Harrison's is a detailed, robust and in-depth text ideal for medical students. There is no stone unturned. The single book is rather bulky and I therefore recommend purchasing the two volume version. 5 stars (Gold Standard for Internal Medicine Text Books) - For the last 30 years of my medical practice I have bought Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine and I have never found anything better than Harrison's. Most of my talks and classes at the Medical School are based on the chapters found in Harrison's. How to File for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy- 12th Edition

3 stars (Could have been better) - - only 16 states allow residents to use Federal exemptions (including Michigan) so they only provide a few measly examples for state exemptions, so if you live in one of the 16 states that allow residents to use Federal exemptions don't expect much from this book - book repeats instructions already on forms over and over; could have eliminated 100 pages at least if they just said follow instructions on forms - if you've read forms, read "Bankruptcy Basics" flyer at Federal website and gotten few few consultations you can skip this book 5 stars (Very Good but look closely.) - A useful guide, as far as I can tell, professional and concise. A possible caution however. The most recent edition as of Nov. '04 is the 11th edition, 2004. I would suggest that you not buy a used copy unless the seller specifies the edition or the publication date. This may not matter very much. Note that the most recent Gilbert bankruptcy law guide and the most recent Nutshell bankruptcy law guide are both 2002 (as far as I can tell). If you're serious about looking into this, you might as well have the sharpest tools you can find. 5 stars (This book saved me attorney's fees! Worth its weight in gold) - I can't say enough wonderful things about this book! 6 months ago I was contemplating bankruptcy. I searched for a book to help me and decided to buy this one. Honestly, I figured I'd read it, be more confused than ever and have to hire an attorney. That's NOT what happened. I took a weekend and studied every page of this book and took notes. I filled out and filed my bankruptcy petition on my own. Today, I attended my creditor's meeting. Now, in just 2 months, I'll receive my discharge. All WITHOUT a lawyer! Filing bankruptcy without a lawyer is more time consuming, but the money saved is worth it. Just take your time and study this book and you'll be fine. Thank you, Nolo. Freakonomics- A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything

4 stars (Entertaining and a bit educational) - I enjoyed reading this; I'm not sure I believe all of it. There was no methodology presented, so I have to take the author's word that he did the research. And, isn't that what this book is about, NOT taking somebody's word that a presented fact is the absolute truth? The information is interesting, but I found the underlying message, that what we accept as the truth isn't always that simple or easy, far more intriguing and frightening. Take the theories with a grain of salt, and enjoy the imaginative, accessible view of economics. Who knew economics could be fun? 5 stars (Too long, too short - the critics need a unifying theme) - First, let me start off by explaining that my exposure to this material was via a CD Audio book that I checked out at the library. The book is read aloud by Stephen Dubner (one of the authors) and he does a fine job of reading it. Plus, since he knows exactly where to put the inflection in his voice, some of the subtle wordplay becomes more apparent as you hear him speak it. I think that may have also given me a better understanding of the points the authors were trying to make - points that many of the critics of this book have either missed or misunderstood. I have a stack of books next to my bed that I read every evening. This audio version allowed me to complete another book during otherwise wasted time on my commute to and from work. One of the best reasons to listen to the audio version comes in the last chapter where they are discussing names. It is certainly more difficult to keep track of the various lists of names without having them written down in front of you, but you do get the advantage hearing the pronunciation of a few of them. Three of the names are rather amusing to hear aloud especially compared to their spelling. Lucas' book was not only helpful in preparing me to deliver speeches of the utmost college level of thinking, but it also had great tools with the interactive cd's with videos of sample speeches and tips on how to make public speaking work for you. I admit: I was terrified of public speaking, but after taking the class and using Lucas' book, it has helped prepare me for a world full of public speaking and new found confidence in doing it! 5 stars (Say what?) - Students who use Lucas' book are presented not simply with an excellent text for preparation and delivery of speeches, but also with a website full of information, examples and tips. While this is intended for a classroom setting (the teacher's edition comes with a lot of supplements to help enhance the learning experience for the students), those who want to learn about the mechanics and processes of public speaking on their own would not be ill served by using this text. There are some signature features that make this a very good text for students, both independent and classroom based. The internet connection is but one, not only the website associated with the book, but also tips on using the vast resources of the internet wisely and efficiently. There is a strong coverage of ethics, to help students avoid the problems of plagiarism (intentional and inadvertent), as well as how to listen properly (without attaching personal agenda or false meaning to interpretation).
