I have tried a lot of language software and books that did not work for me. If you follow this program, you will be able to read and write the Japanese phonetic language. It won't give you a lot of vocabulary, but you will be able to sound out Katakana and Hirgana. Complete Spanish Learning Suite

5 stars (multi-pronged approach to learning Spanish) - Complete Spanish Learning Suite has a multi-pronged approach to learning Spanish that is very effective. The software could use a better explanation of the programs in the suite. It's worth taking the time to explore each one. I found the flashcard (Spanish before you know it) particularly helpful in conjunction with the class that I am taking, since I can create my own word lists that match what I am currently studying. Its programs also give one practice in listening to and speaking Spanish. The linga-match lexicon program's has three settings that allow you to access a 4,000, 25,000 or 60,000 word dictionary. The Spanish Grammar Pro is a good reference, but lacks an organized approach to self-study. LinguaMatch allows you to choose from a variety of places and learn words associated with them by clicking on the items in the picture and then hearing and seeing the words in Spanish. Language Now gives you an opportunity for immersion in listening to Spanish, which is an excellent way to gain confidence in learning a language. The screen-saver is a fun tool, too. The variety the suite offers helps to keep things interesting. It probably isn't as useful without any prior or concurrent classes. Overall, it was easily worth the $20 I paid for it (with rebate), but is not sufficient in itself for self-study. 5 stars (Powerful suite although possibly too involved for some) - This learning suite consists of about half a dozen programs, each of which does different things and offers different features. I found it very complete and full-featured but somewhat difficult to navigate around because of all the activities and separate modules. 5 stars (reviewer 'Software User " is from the Learn French Now co.) - I'm not familiar with this software, however, after reading and researching French products on Amazon I noticed a pattern that someone from Learn French Now company is peppering the customer reviews to steer people to their product. The same person writes reviews in all the French software. It's shameful. I wish Amazon had a way to stop this, must be a pretty desperate company to do this. 2 stars (hard to learn) - i already learn french in school. And if i dind't already know a little bit then i would have a huge problem with learning from this from scratch. It's difficult to use. It doesn't teach you vocabulary. And i've found errors in the some of the translations. 3 stars (Good Introduction) - Our son is 6 and he LOVES this program. It is an inexpensive way to get your child to learn some basic Spanish. There is no English translation, however, so it helps if you know a little Spanish. 1 stars (This is a waste of good money! Don't buy it.) - I am extremely disappointed in this product. My chid is nine and found this so boring she didn't even want to play it; it didn't even pique my interest. We purchase a lot of educational software, and it ususally glues my child to the computer. Not this one! Also, the pronunciation is not clear. If you don't already know some Spanish, I don't think you would be able to understand it. The program then uses the "th" pronunciation as used in Spain, and not in the rest of the Latin countries of the world. Save your $20.00 for something better. ...

Power Chinese DVD Case

5 stars (Substance over style) - Asthetics aside, the program runs great, and wouldn't you know it, actually does as advertised. Being sub-beginner mandarin student if such a catagory existed, and even I took alot away from this. Great buy, all around. 5 stars (Have fun learning to read and write Chinese) - This program definitely deserves a review. I found it so much fun to work with that I stayed up all night, as long as I could keep my eyes open. It feels more like playing the game than investing an effort in learning. It is beautifully structures - it seems just to be made perfect for Western minds, or rather for people who have short time span. The program teaches grammar, too, in a way that seems more like watching a commercial on TV. It is offered in easily digestable bits, which are immediately followed through practice that is structured just like playing a game. New characters are introduced throughout the program and through the exercises. Information about every Chinese character is available throughout the program. All you need to do is click on the character you don't know, or that you might have forgotten, to see how it's written (stroke order and count, which are by the way, very colorful), to hear it pronounced, or to check out the pinyin spelling. You never feel stuck. Some characters are "deconstructed" to provide some possible logic that may help in memorizing the character. There are also few cultural bits and pieces, and even videos with people who have mastered the ability to speak Chinese fluently - for motivation and encouragement. The program is really good throughout in taking the stress out of learning Chinese characters, in making it as easy and enjoyable as possible and in motivating you to keep going. 5 stars (FUN & EASY WAY TO LEARN CHINESE CHARACTERS) - This program definitely deserves a review. 5 stars (Immersion Arabic!) - I just received this item in the mail recently and already I'm impressed. However, I would like to offer a couple of warnings to beginner Arabic learners: 1. First, do NOT buy this AND the "LINGUAPHONE Arabic InAction V2" CD-ROM because they are the same product. The only difference between the two is that "Learn Arabic Now" has two additional catagories/lessons a few more games, and 5,000 additional Arabic words that can be learned. "Linguaphone V2" seems to be the condensed/ abridged version of "Learn Arabic Now" because the graphics and program set-up are identical. 2. Purchase Nicholas Awde's "THE ARABIC ALPHABET - How to Read & Write It" and study it before engaging in this program. Though good, "Learn Arabic Now" does not give lessons on Arabic script and stroke order. The alphabet is briefly explained in a pop-up, but this is a general overview that only someone who has studied the Arabic alphabet would be able to relate to. 3. Also, don't be intimidated by the program. It is constructed to give an "instant immersion" effect. This is good, but I find it most effective to spend one week on 1 or 2 sentences of new Arabic vocabulary before moving on to new lessons. 4. Finally, if I was not already listening to Pimsleur's "Instant Conversion" CDs (the one on the Barnes & Noble site has 10 CDs, unlike Amazon's version which just has 8), I would be totally overwhelmed by "Learn Arabic Now". However, since "Instant Conversation" has already prepped me, almost everything in "Learn Arabic Now" is a reinforcement of previously learned vocubalary. 5 stars (Learn Arabic!!!) - Arabic Now is a very good software when it comes to language learning. 3 stars (So-so for the money) - The idea and format aren't bad. I would have liked it if there had been a few more words to learn. Also, instead of learning animal names, which aren't very useful if you don't live on a farm, they should have included some simple sentences. A little more material or a little lower price would have increased my rating to 4 stars. 2 stars (There must be a better bang for your buck.) - I bought this software on the recommendation of some software review site, and I must say my 9 year old daughter and I were disappointed. The graphics are sometimes hard to make out on the screen. (The animation altogether isn't very appealing at all, but that's not why I bought it . . . )And my daughter kept repeating, "But I want to learn sentences!" It's just an okay introduction if you want to learn the names of fruits and vegetables. 5 stars (Awesome For Kids) - KidSpeak 6-in-1 is an awesome product for kids to have fun with and learn several languages(Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Hebrew).
